Alice in Wonderland has always been one of my favorite books. Just like Phantom, it has been told and retold a thousand different ways, and each new addition still leaves you filled with wonder. Whenever I send out a letter, card, or even a little promo item for one of my books, I like to use professional return address labels. I have had them made at lots of different places in the past, but I never found exactly what I was looking for until I came across Labels-R-Us. They offer dozens of beautiful designs, so there is something for everyone, and their prices are definitely the lowest I've seen. You can a sheet of 120 labels for only $7.95! You can find their products both on Etsy and their website.

In addition to hosting the giveaway, Labels-R-Us was nice enough to send me some customized labels to review. I really wasn't expecting them to be as amazing as they are. Of course, I went with the Phantom design. It is printed on bright glossy paper with beautiful scripted letters. Above my address, they wrote "Phantom, By Laura DeLuca" and below, they even managed to squeeze in both my websites. All of this is on each label without making them look cluttered. This are exactly what I was looking for. They are a great way to promote my book and my blogs every time I send off a piece of snail mail.

In addition to the address labels, I also received a set of Phantom Bottle Labels. They are a fun way to decorate your water bottles so that they don't get them mixed up with anyone else's when you're out and about. My son has been using them for basketball practice, and half the other moms said they plan to buy my book after the labels caught their eye. But they also have so many other uses. If you are planning a bridal or baby shower, you can create custom labels and make your owns favors by simply adding the labels to water bottles. Or if you don't want to put them on bottles, use them to decorate other things. My daughter stole a few to put on her school books. Clockwork Cranium is a place where the whimsical comes to life. At this little Etsy shop, you can find headpieces and jewelty with a sort of retro charm. Most of their pieces are inspired by the carny life and its somewhat mystical characters. But I definitely see hints of Gothic and punk styles as well. The thing that got my attention in this store was, of course, the Gaston Phantom of the Opera Inspired Headband. I have never seen anything quite like it. There is so much detail on this piece, every time I look at the picture, I see something new. Note the little candelabra and the little green mask on the back. And of course the fan and rosettes give it an old world charm. This piece would be fun to wear or just use as a unique piece of decor. I know it would be perfect in my Phantom shrine.

Like me, the artist from the Tea Shop loves all things Phantom and she had found a really unique way to express her devotion to this timeless character. With four kids of all different ages, we have a wide range of interests in our house. My older kids love video games and the little ones love Sesame Street. We are working hard on the cover for Destiny Unveiled. This is a very rough draft. The raven might change a little, and the chain for the necklace hasn't been added in yet. We are also thinking about using color in the letters of the title. We used green last time to go along with the leaves of the rose, but want something different this time. I am also considering making the moon red, but it would have to be subtle. If anyone has any suggestions, I would love to hear them. Of course the final decision is made by the publisher, but input is always appreciated.

My Thoughts: Every time my coven gathers for a Sabbat, we celebrate with an elaborate feast. We always look for different recipes to incorporate into the meals that are meaningful and well as flavorful. This has always presented a challenge, until now. In Sabbot Cooking ~ Imbolc, Stacy Evans has done all the work for you. She has compiled a variety of recipes from appetizers to desserts that are easy to prepare, and will make a wonderful addition to any Imbolc celebration. The best part about them is that they include the magical properties of many of the ingredients as well as their culinary advantages. Imbolc has always been one of my favorite Sabbats because it honors my patron Goddess Brigid. Brigid is often depicted carrying a flame with a ewe by her side. This is symbolic of the turn of the seasons. Despite the fact that the air is still cool, we know that spring is coming, and the seeds of life are quickening beneath the ground. This cookbook manages to take this magical time, and turn it into a symbolic feast.

Most of the recipes in the book use cheese or other dairy ingredients, but in most cases these can be substituted with lactose friendly products. I have never been very good in the kitchen (must be why I married a chef--twice). Yet even I was able to find a few recipes that were simple enough for me to manage. My favorite is the Simple Braid Bread which uses canned bread. But for those who like a challenge, there are also many recipes that can be made from scratch. I shared the book with my coven's resident High Priestess/Executive Chef, and she was thrilled. I know we will be enjoying many of these amazing dishes at this year's Imbolc celebration.

Last month, I revealed that my young adult novel, "Phantom" was accepted by Pagan Writers Press. Since then, I have been hard at work with the publisher and my amazing editor, Rosa Sophia, getting this book polished up for publication in 2012. One of my favorite scenes in Phantom includes a belly dance routine. I can't say any more than that because I don't want to give away information about a pivotal scene in the story. I consider myself truly blessed to have not only met Tempest, but to have shared Sacred Space with her on a few occasions. Now, I am just about the most uncoordinated person in the world, and learning even the simplest steps was a challenge for me. But Tempest had the patience of an angel, and always took a few extra moments to try to help me get it right. I was only able to go to few classes before I got pregnant with my daughter and was on bed rest. By the time she was born, Tempest had moved, but those few classes were an experience I will never forget.

In addition to taking her class, I also attended a few professional performances that Tempest arranged in our area. The class was fun, but was nothing compared to watching Tempest perform live. When she begins to move, its like she is magically transformed into the Goddess herself. Her movements are fluid and graceful. Her costumes (which she often designs herself) are enchanting. She has created her own version of Gothic Belly Dance that is elegant and breathtaking. It literally brought tears to my eyes. Even as a writer, I find it hard to express just how amazing it is to watch her perform. Tempest is one of the most beautiful woman I have had the privilege to meet. It is a beauty that emanates from her soul and is transferred to the fluid movements of her body. All the wisdom of the ages is expressed in the poetic motions of her dance. She is a true artist.

All I Want for Yule is a Big Rock

I have never been very materialistic. My engagement ring is so tiny you need a magnifying glass to find the diamond. I never cared that much about diamonds, but I do love big rocks. So this year, I told my husband I wanted a nice big rock for Yule. A rock in the form of a crystal, of course. These are a few of the crystal points I was looking at:

Then I starting thinking, maybe I should get a whole cluster of crystals instead of one big point. These were a few that I just loved.

Then I thought maybe something a little smaller would be better, something different than plain quartz--maybe green phantom quartz or SPHALARITE, TETRAHEDRITE, and QUARTZ CRYSTALS all blended together.

I also came across these two unique carved crystals that would be perfect for next year's Samhain celebration.

And of course I had to find a little something special to share with my circle sisters. We already exchanged Yule gifts, but these two sets of colored stone points seemed a good fit for the Ice Moon and Imbolc, and there were just enough for each of us to have one.

I have had these all in my watch list on eBay for the last few weeks. When I logged in today, they were all missing. I couldn't believe it. I thought hours of searching for just the right crystals, the ones that really called to me, was wasted. Then I noticed they were in my bought items! What? Did my kids get their hands on my compute? Nope. It was my husband! He bought me every single one of the crystals! I said it was too much. I told him one was enough, and he didn't have to buy them all. He told me, "Hey, at least it didn't cost three months salary". LOL I have such an awesome husband! Not only for buying me these amazing gifts, but for being so loving and expecting of me and all my witchy ways. He is the best gift of all!

Paper Yule Tree Ornaments - Guest Post by Pagan Author Stacy Evans

I saw the neatest thing the other day. My daughter has been getting into “kitties and puppies” lately, so we watched 101 Dalmatians. In it, there is a scene at the end where Anita is decorating a Christmas Tree. Now, I've seen 101 Dalmatians before, but never really saw the Christmas tree they were decorating at the end. If you look, you can see they are hanging little paper cards from it. See?

So I set out to make one. Here is what you need:

Some old Christmas/Yule/etc. cards, some scrap-booking glue/tape (white glue is too wet, but you can use stick glue if need be), scissors, card stock, and some embroidery thread.

Cut out any pieces you like from the cards. You can cut out subjects or pieces from the background, whatever appeals to you. Be sure that they will fit somehow within the scale of the card stock. I ended up lumping mine together in different piles based on what images I had in my head.

After arranging the images, I glue taped them down, and made pretty designs in the white spaces.

Then stick a thumbtack (or need, or other sharp, pokey instrument) into the top of the card stock and string with embroidery thread. Then, hang on your tree and enjoy!

These are incredibly easy and fun for kids to do - even young kids, if you have the images cut out before hand. You'll never get tired of looking at a handmade ornament on your tree!

Destiny Unveiled - First Draft for the Cover

The Destiny Sequel is Coming in June!

Earlier this week, I was talking with the owner of Free Focus Publishing, the house that released Destiny last year. I am excited to announce that they have agreed to publish the sequel to Destiny! We are looking at a June release date to correspond with the setting of the book. You can read a short excerpt from the novel here. The working title of the sequel is "The Search for Destiny" but we are working on some alternatives. We are pretty sure the cover will feature a raven holding the signature necklace in its mouth. I am very excited about it! I am working on writing a short summary for the back of the book and will post that as soon as its ready. Excerpt from My Young Adult Novel Phantom

I wanted to give everyone a little taste of what is to come with Phantom, my new young adult novel which will be published by Pagan Writers Press sometime in the coming year. The scene below is from the first chapter when the school is holding auditions for the musical "Phantom". It will give you an introduction to some of the main characters without giving away too much. Please keep in mind that this is the unedited version and the final draft might be a little different.

“Lord…Justyn?”

     It sounded more like a question than an audition call. Miss King looked slightly baffled as she scanned her paperwork and read the last name on her list of male candidates. Once she was certain she had read the name correctly, she called it out once more with a little more confidence. When she received no immediate response, she seemed ready to dismiss the whole thing as a joke. But then a strange black clad figure seemed to materialize in the corner of the stage, and with practiced grace, he moved towards the center of the platform and the waiting microphone.

     “That’s Justyn Patko,” Carmen informed Rebecca matter-of-factly. Luckily her best friend was the queen of gossip. “He just moved here this year. From Vegas, I think. He’s in my Calculus class.”

     “He’s a little creepy if you ask me,” Debbie whispered.

     Creepy he might have been to some, with his black clothes trimmed with silver chains, black hair, and black fingernails. He was obviously Gothic to the core, a fashion statement Rebecca had always thought was secretly a cry for attention. But for Justyn, there seemed no other possibility. She couldn’t imagine the darkly mysterious figure dressed in earth tones or preppy, button-down shirts. They would have clashed with his dark eyes and pale skin. She had seen him in the hallway a few times, but they didn’t share any classes together, so Rebecca had never really taken the time to study him before. Despite his odd style, there was something strangely appealing about Justyn. In his own way, he was just as handsome as Tom.

     The orchestra tuned for its virtuoso, and Justyn stood ready. But no one else was ready for the magical performance he began. Beside her, Carmen was rambling on about something mundane. Rebecca elbowed her to silence so she could listen to the perfectly thrilling tenor. As she listened to the song unfold, the world around her started to slip away. Gone was the high school auditorium. Gone were the rowdy teenagers. The Gothic stranger on the stage had become the embodiment of Erik, and Rebecca watched him in all his dark glory, belting out his tormented love through the words of his song. And she was as breathless with wonder as Christine herself must have been when the masked stranger serenaded her in the candlelit labyrinth of the opera house. In that moment, Justyn wasn’t just portraying the phantom. Justyn was the phantom.

                                               “Let the music touch your soul.
                                                 Let the darkness make you whole.
                                                 Do not fear what is unknown.
                                                 Your true path has now been shown.
                                                 Listen to the words I sing.
                                                 Embrace the peace that night will bring.”

     As he continued to sing in his deep but somehow angelic voice, Rebecca found that she couldn’t tear her eyes away from him. With every line, her heart began to beat faster. She truly felt the arms of night wrapping her in a warm embrace. She could almost feel the hands of the phantom glide along her body as the words poured forth. The music caressed her. It possessed her—mind, body and soul. Each word left her longing, yearning for more.

     She was gawking so obviously, it was hardly surprising when Justyn felt her eyes on him and steadily met her gaze. She realized her mouth was hanging open in stunned awe, and she quickly snapped it shut. His lips moved into just a small hint of a smile. He never took his eyes off her while he sang the final verse, making her cheeks flush to the point that she felt almost feverish. But it wasn’t embarrassment but excitement, arousal even, which was sending her mind spinning in so many directions.

      When the song was over, and Rebecca had recovered just a hint of her composure, she couldn’t help but burst into a healthy round of applause. A few scattered people joined in, including Debbie and Carmen after she nudged them in the ribs. But only Miss King seemed to truly appreciate the brilliance of his talent as much as Rebecca did.

      “That was amazing, Justyn!” the teacher gushed.

      “Lord Justyn,” he corrected as he stepped down from the stage.

      A few others complimented him as well, but he took in all in stride. In fact, his serious expression never faltered as he stepped down from the stage. He seemed almost bored, like it was all he could do to hold back a yawn, despite the smiles and words of encouragement.

     But not everyone in the crowd was pleased as Justyn glided down the aisle, so ethereal in his dark garments that he still resonated the spirit of the Opera Ghost. Miss King might have been excited about the newest male addition to her cast after being limited for many years, but Tom and his group of boisterous companions glared at him as he passed them by. Jay sneered and tossed a balled up piece of paper in Justyn’s direction, but the Goth was quick, and caught it in his hand without missing a beat.

    “I think you dropped something,” he said.

    His speaking voice was no less melodic than his singing voice, but something about his tone made Rebecca shiver. He tossed the paper back at Jay, who was nowhere near as coordinated as Justyn. He practically fell off his seat in his efforts to catch it.

     “Hey vampire,” Tom called when Justyn went to walk away. “Are you sure you can handle the competition?”

     Justyn smiled, a cool, sarcastic half-smile, and crossed his arms over his chest. “Are you?”

     Miss King didn’t notice the short confrontation, and Justyn vanished from the auditorium as quickly and mysteriously as he had appeared. Only Rebecca had noticed the very real tension between the two boys. She wondered if it was a bad omen for them to start off the production with hard feelings and envy. That could only lead to trouble. The kind of trouble that could end with someone getting hurt. The kind of trouble that Rebecca would do whatever it took to avoid.

I am always excited to see what people think when they read my books, but I was thrilled this morning when I read the review on Just One Opinion. Not only because she was happy with the whole story overall, but because she said that Flora was her favorite character. Flora is Gabriella's best friend, and provides some much needed humor even in the darkest of scenes. But she is also the character that is based on my own personality. From her awkward clumsiness to having the tendency to put her foot in her mouth, Flora is probably one of the most fun to write about. My YA Novel "Phantom" is Being Published!

I am so excited to share that by second young adult novel, "Phantom" has been accepted my Pagan Writers Press! It will be awhile before I know the release date, but I couldn't refrain from sharing the good news. I have always been fascinated with the "Phantom of the Opera" from the classic Gaston Leroux novel to the divine musical by Andrew Lloyd Weber. This obsession led to create my own modern day Erik is my YA thriller, "Phantom." Here is just a short summary of the plot to give you a tease of what is to come:

“Phantom” was a musical phenomenon that Rebecca had always found enchanting. She had no idea that her life was about to mirror the play that was her obsession. But when her high school drama club chooses “Phantom” as their next production, Rebecca finds herself in the middle of an unlikely love triangle and the target of a sadistic stalker who uses the lines from the play as their calling card.

Rebecca lands the lead role of Christine, the opera diva. And like her character, she is torn between her two co-stars--Tom the surfer and basketball star who plays the lovable hero, and Lord Justyn, the strangely appealing Goth who is more than realistic in the role of the tortured artist. Almost immediately after casting, strange things start to happen both on and off the stage. Curtains fall. Mirrors are shattered. People are hurt in true phantom style. They all seem like accidents, but Rebecca keeps receiving notes and phone calls that hint at something more sinister. But no one takes her seriously, even after the strange death that occurs at the Halloween Dance.

Rebecca is on her own at figuring out this mystery. Is Justyn bringing to life the twisted character of the phantom? Or in real life are the roles of the hero and the villain reversed? Rebecca doesn’t know who to trust, but she knows she’s running out of time as she gets closer and closer to opening night. When the mask is finally stripped away, who will be revealed as the twenty-first century phantom!

***The tarot card giveaway gave me an itch to share a new project I am working on. My newest novel, Morrigan, is still a work in progress. I am about half way done. Below is just a small sample, from the very beginning of the book. The main character, Morrigan, is named after one of my favorite Celtic Goddesses (shown in the pic above). Morrigan is a teenage witch who has been shuffled from one foster home to another all her life. Now she is about to discover she is a princess from the mystical land of Tir Na Nog. The handsome werewolf Philtairn guides her through countless perils to find her mother, Cerridwen, and grandmother, Hecate. Only together can they complete the magical triad and save their world.***

Morrigan closed her eyes and began to shuffle the cards. As she did, she allowed her breathing to become more even. A silence filled the room as the rest of the mortal world fell away. Soon the only sound she heard was the light thump of her own heartbeat, echoed by the quicker, fast paced beat of the hearts of the cats. She wasn't sure how much time passed as the cards slipped through her fingers. It might have minutes. It might have been hours. When she was in a trace, as she was, time became insubstantial, irrelevant.

The tarot cards were so old; she had to shuffle gently to keep them from crumbling to pieces in her hands. Yet they held a power that she knew no newer cards could ever offer her. As she shuffled them, she focused her energy into them, silently requesting to be given the answers she was seeking. She allowed the image of her mother to fill her mind. When she finally felt the cards had fallen into the order they were meant to be in, she placed the deck face down on the floor, and cut them with her right hand. Then, taking one last, calming breath, she lifted the top card from the pile. With a trembling hand, she laid it down and read it.

"Wheel of Fortune," she said aloud.

In the center of card was a wheel. As she stared at the picture, that wheel seemed to start turning clockwise. The movements made her feel slightly dizzy. The bedroom around her began more and more surreal. Te scenes on the cards became her reality. The figure of the sphinx that on top of the turning wheel looked so very real. It might have turned its head to look at her. Its lips may or may not have moved. But Morrigan swore she heard a deep, resonating voice whispering in her ear the meaning of the card. Destiny approaching. An unexpected and sudden change was coming—change that could lead to good fortune.

It was the card of fate and karma returned. It meant that she needed to be prepared—to expect the unexpected. Morrigan knew the cards were telling her something was going to happen—and soon. Her destiny, whatever it was, was about to be realized. And even if it brought with it fortune of some kind, it still scared her to death. So much so that she considered packing up the cards right then and there. Her rational mind had every intention of doing just that. The problem was her hands didn't get the message her brain was sending them. Before she knew what she was doing, she had already flipped over the second card.

"The Empress," she whispered. She exhaled deeply. "My…mother."

It was the only interpretation imaginable. And even as she said it, the pregnant woman, crowed with stars and adorned in a gown decorated with pomegranates, turned to her and smiled. No longer the vague featureless face of a stranger that was there just a moment ago, but the same face she had sketched earlier that day—a face that mirrored her own. It was an older version of her own face, which she saw in the reflection in the nearby full length mirror, had turned chalk white.

The Empress was a symbol of maternal power—of a strong feminine influence. But could it mean…did she even dare to hope that it might mean her mother was returning? The mother who had deserted her so long ago was going to return? She had never allowed herself to even consider such a possibility. To dwell on something so unlikely would have been too painful. But now, with just the flip of a card, she found herself daring to dream it might be. There was only one way to find out if it could be true. She had to keep going with the reading.

"Six of Cups."

The third card in the spread represented her past, and to a point even her immediate present. The six of cups specifically symbolized childhood, and she was after all, still technically a child. But she had a feeling that her childhood was about to end quite abruptly. The cups in the picture were lined up across a high, stone wall, each cup holding the memories of her past.

Her past. It was nothing but a childhood filled with longing—longings which were perhaps about to be fulfilled. She visualized herself taking each cup down from the wall, and pouring the troubling memories away. It was time to start fresh. A new world was about to open up for her. She had known it as soon as she had seen the image of her mother's face. But what would that world be like? What was waiting for her in the future?

Morrigan turned over the fourth card.

"The Knight of Wands."

The man on the horse carrying the staff had her baffled. Not because she didn't know it's normal meaning, but because as she stared at the card, it began to take on the physical attributes of the knight in her drawing. The same long dreadlocks, the same bewitching stare, the same cocky smile. Not at all the blank face that was nearly worn away from time that should been staring back at her. But the knight of wands was representative of a dark man, a man filled with a kind of honey-tongued charm. But he was also fiery and arrogant, a man with a definite possibility of a dark side. If this man was coming into her life, she knew she needed to proceed with caution.

She thought she was done with the fourth card and was preparing to move on to the next, when once again, she found she had lost control of her own body's functions. This time, her hands refused to move, while her eyes forced their way back to the knight in the card. She watched as the long haired stranger began to move forward—wondering over various landscapes—some high mountains, some meadows and fields ripe for the harvest. He kept looking back over his shoulder, as though he were speaking to someone. So he was on a journey, and he wasn't alone. Morrigan didn't need to see his companion to know who it must be.

So, her journey would soon begin, and she wouldn't be traveling alone. Whether or not that would be a good thing was another question best left to the cards to answer. However, the next card told her nothing she didn't already know

"The Moon," she said. "Caution."

It was a scary card. It warned of tricks and illusions. The two howling wolves that stood under the moon, looked back at her menacingly, growling, showing their pointed fangs in a snarl. And for the first time since she began the reading, Frick & Frack made their presence known by lifting their heads and hissing threateningly in the direction of the beasts.

So even the cats sensed it. This journey she was about to embark on wouldn't be all fun and family reunions. There would be obstacles and deceit, most likely from people she would think could be trusted. The moon was a sign that danger was certainly awaiting her. In was an ominous omen.

"Shhhh."

She hushed the still hissing cats, and gave them each a gentle stroke to try to settle them down, though she was far from settled herself. Again she felt the urge to stop the spread. Her instincts were telling her that no good was going to come out of this reading. That she was only going to scare herself. She should never have done it in the first place. When would she learn that sometimes it was best to just let life play out without interference or prophetic warnings? But then again, she knew that to be forewarned might be her only advantage on this bumpy road she was apparently going to travel. So with more bravery than she felt, Morrigan flipped over the final card.

"No…" she gasped when she looked down at the terrible, skeletal face. "Oh no…"

She should have known. She thought perhaps a part of her did know even before she had even glanced down at the gruesome scene—a skeleton with a scythe in a field of body parts. With the divination going in the direction it had been, what else could be the final outcome?

"Death," she whispered. "Death."

She knew that in most cases, the death card was more a symbol of personal transformation than literal death. But a deeper sense of understanding told her that this time the card was supposed to be taken literally. She saw only glimpses and shadows in her mind. Brief flashes of faces, some familiar, like her mother and the knight—some still strangers, like a beautiful, almost angelic blonde woman in a flowing white gown. But around them all, including herself, she saw the shadows of death. Someone would die. That was certain. Whether that person was Morrigan or someone else, neither the cards nor her sixth sense was willing to reveal.

Morrigan felt decidedly shaky as she gathered up her tarot cards. She placed them securely in the bottom of her bag just as she heard the door downstairs slam shut. The reading hadn't made everything as crystal clear as she had hoped, but one thing was certain. She would very soon be leaving on a journey—a journey that would undoubtedly lead to death.

Darron was on the roof of a large building, elevated dizzyingly high over the road below. Other skyscrapers bordered it, but it was by far the largest building in the general area, standing several stories higher than it's neighbors. The few cars that dotted the street below looked like insects. Above him, the moon shone full, round, and red in the night sky. It was an autumn moon, a blood moon. By the light of that moon, Darron was able to see the practiced movements of six black-cloaked figures, who swayed to the steady beat of an invisible drum. Their shapes were obscure in the pale light, and it was impossible to determine if they were men or women because the dark, hooded robes they wore hid their features from view.

There was an altar erected in the center of a circle that was outlined in black charcoal. On that altar sat the normal tools of ritual: a black tipped dagger, a silver chalice, an incense burner, and multiple black candles. Darron owned similar items. They weren't frightening in themselves. But the altar, like the people who lingered around it, was outlined by a shimmering black aura. The vibrations they relayed were no less than evil. Their presence made Darron shudder. He watched in horror, as a silent and unwelcome spectator to the forbidden rights.

Four of the cloaked figures took up the elemental corners, preparing to call the Guardians. The Guardians answered their call, unable to ignore the summons because magick can't be divided into good and evil. It's both because nature is both, harsh and devastating yet beautiful and gentle as the need arises. It was just as easy for the dark witches to harness the destructive forces of nature as it was for Darron and his coven to call upon its life giving magick. Good or evil was in the heart of its master, not in the magick that was wielded.

A fifth cloaked figure, the apparent leader of the group, stood in the center of the circle with the dagger raised high above his head. The sixth and final coven member groveled at the feet of the leader, his head lowered in acquiescence. The hood of his cloak hid his face though he was no more than a few feet away from Darron.

"Brother and sisters," the leader proclaimed, his accented voice heavy with his foreboding presence. "Tonight in the wake of the blood moon, we come together to bring a new brother into our fold. He has completed the required tasks and proven himself worthy to join us in our work."

"So mote it be!"

The four other cloaked figures cried out in perfect unison. Their hands were raised to the sky in honor of the blood moon.

The leader picked up the chalice from the altar. He followed the path of the circle to all of the elemental corners, stopping at each of the robed coven members in turn. Each offered their willing hands to their leader, palm outward. Each welcomed the point of the black edged dagger as it dug into their open palms without so much as a gasp of pain. The high priest cut a clean line down the centers of the palms of his disciples, and they all squeezed their fingers against the open wound to allow the blood to drip into the waiting chalice.

After collecting the offering from his followers, the leader returned to the center of the circle and the waiting initiate. With one quick motion, he sliced open his own palm. He held his hand over the cup, letting his blood drip slowly into the chalice, until the wound miraculously healed before Darron's startled eyes. When the chalice was full, he carried it to the eager initiate who took the cup firmly into his hands and tilted it towards his lips.

"As this blood makes you one with our flesh, so your soul follows to become one with the darkness," the English voice intoned.

As the initiate drained the last of the liquid in the chalice, his hood fell away, revealing a blonde ponytail pulled back over a pale white face, made even paler by the outline of bright red blood around his lips. Darron watched in stunned, horrified silence as his own face turned to meet his gaze. Eyes turned as black as coals stared back at Darron with a grim smile of satisfaction.

"Rise Darron," the leader commanded. And as he spoke, he lifted the hood from his head. Rise brother of the Dark Coven."

Mindful Matters Dragonfly Bookmark Review & Giveaway

Like most writers, when I'm not working on my own books, I enjoy reading creative works of other authors. I am still old fashioned. I haven't gotten a Kindle. I like the feel of a real book in my hands. I treasure my collection of both fiction novels and non fiction research books. So when I need to mark my page, there is no creasing back the pages. For my review, I was sent a lovely Dragonfly Hook Bookmark. The stem of the bookmark is decorated in silver tone flowers. Dangling from the hook are a variety of colorful beads. At the end of the beads is a dragonfly, which has always been one of my favorite symbols. Unlike most metal bookmarks, this one is thick and sturdy. It will not bend easily. The hooked corner will stay firmly in place so you won't lose your page. But it is so pretty, you might find yourself losing your place in your novel as you admire the amazing and intricate details on the lovely polymer clay bead work. In addition to the dragonfly bookmark, they also offers butterflies, honeybees, hummingbirds and more.
