Content Warning: contains adult language and explicit sexual scenes

SORM excerpt

Lauren stared at the papers in front of her, but none of it registered. All she could focus on was the half naked man. The hot, sweaty, tanned man who was now naked in his shower only feet away from her.
She shook her head and rubbed her thighs. Enough. It wasn’t like Tucker was the first sexy man she’d seen. She wasn’t blind or innocent, but something about him got her panties moist quick. Hopefully, she could make it through this accounting meeting without ripping her own clothes off and offering herself up to him. She had no doubt he would be an awesome lover. The man worked with his hands all day; surely he knew a thing or two that could please her.
Seriously, enough.
Lauren straightened her back and stared at the stack of papers he’d given her. There were receipts, printouts, and such. Tucker seemed to keep good records, so that would make things easier. She removed her computer from her bag and turned it on. After she pulled up the file for Carver Ranch, she studied it once more to familiarize herself with it.
This was a profitable ranch. Last year had been one of their roughest years, but so far, this year was already better. She was sure once she started to fill in the stuff he’d supplied her with, she’d see they’d come back strong from the previous year.
“Everything there?”
Lauren jumped in her seat.
“Sorry, didn’t mean to scare you.”
Tucker, now dressed, came over and sat next to her. Whatever soap he’d used attacked her senses in a good way. How did someone get out of the shower, yet still smell like fresh cut pines?
She shouldn’t do it, but she did anyway. She let her gaze wander over his body. The black t-shirt he wore hugged his wide chest, letting her get the full view of his muscles.
Lauren looked away quickly. “Yeah, I think this is it.” She flipped through the stack. “You’re free to do whatever while I do this. I know you’ve got a lot to do.”
“Can I get you something to drink?” He stood, and her focus went straight to his crotch.
Oh God. She glanced up quick to see him smirking. The man knew he was sex on a stick with his sandy blond hair and blue eyes. “Do you have some tea?”
“Sweet?”
“Uh, yeah.”
He winked. “I’ll be back.”
“Take your time.” The farther away he was, the more she could concentrate on her work. She wasn’t sure what had come over her, but the sooner she got done with this job, the better. Then she wouldn’t have to see him again until next quarter.

SORM excerpt
Krista jogged to catch up with her friend. At the entrance, a big man stood there in the classic get-up. Sunglasses, a black shirt, and tight jeans. He was hot and Krista wondered if she could stay out there with him because he looked more like her type.
“Good evening, ladies. I need to see some ID.” He held out his hand.
She dug hers out of her wallet and handed it to him. He glanced at the I.D.’s, smiled, and gave them back.
“Enjoy your evening.”
Jamie looped her arm through Krista’s and they were on their way to what felt like the unknown to Krista.
Inside was dark as expected, but there was just enough lighting so she wouldn’t trip over anything. There were a lot of women there. Apparently her friend wasn’t the only one with a thing for older men.
There was a small dance floor to her left, but it was mostly set up with various lounge areas. A contemporary feel flowed throughout with black leather sofas, red-and-white throw pillows, and chrome décor. The bar sat in the center of the room, and Krista was thrilled when Jamie led her in that direction.
A female bartender, who was surprisingly dressed conservative in a white button down blouse, greeted them. “What can I get you?”
“Two sex on the beaches,” Jamie said.
“Suck up.” Krista leaned her back against the bar and glanced around. She didn’t see a man anywhere without a young, beautiful woman at his side. Next to the attached women, she felt like she was wearing a paper sack. Not a man looked in her direction. “I bet all the good ones are taken.”
Jamie twirled a lock of her blonde hair as she checked out the men. “Why do you say that?”
“With the amount of women in here, any man without one at this point must be a loser.”
“Or he’s just waiting on the right woman.” Jamie winked.
The bartender returned with their drinks. Jamie told her to leave the tab open.
“Now what?” Krista asked as she picked up her beverage.
“Let’s find somewhere to sit, drink a little to lighten our mood, and go from there. This doesn’t need to be planned out.”
“This is so stupid.” Krista took a sip of her drink. “It feels like we’re waiting for some man to find us attractive and want to talk to us. It’s just weird.”
Her friend sighed. “Live a little. Jeez. How well has it been working out with the men your own age?”
Jamie had a point. “But still,” Krista protested halfheartedly.
“If you want to leave, I’ll give you my keys. I’m not going to force you to stay.”
“I might.” A deep masculine voice sounded from behind them.
A shiver swept down Krista’s spine. Her heart rate sped up and it felt like slow motion as she spun around to see who had spoken to her. Oh. My. God! She laid eyes on one of the most gorgeous men she’d ever seen. He put George Clooney to shame.
“Would you gorgeous ladies care to join me?” He motioned toward an empty couch.
“We’d love to.” Jamie smiled.
Krista attempted to speak, but no words were forming as she followed them over. She expected Jamie to sit next to the sexy man and keep him for herself, but instead, her friend left a gap for Krista to sit in the middle.
“I’m Neil.” He took a sip from his drink. The light gold liquid flowed to his lips and Krista found herself jealous of the glass.
“I’m Jamie, and this is my friend Krista Michaels.”
Why the heck did Jamie just given him my last name?
Neil rested his glass on the armrest. He was at ease and in his comfort zone as he straightened his light blue tie. “It’s nice to meet you both. First time here?”
“Yes. Though it’s a relatively new place. Have you been here much?” Jamie asked.
“A few times. I’m friends with the owner.” His gaze stayed on Krista.
She stared back, mesmerized by him. He had dark hair with slight streaks of grey at the temple. Not too much, just was the right amount. Perfect. Like him. Now if only she could speak, she might get somewhere.
“What do you do for a living?” He spun the glass around with his fingers.
“We’re both teachers,” Jamie answered.
His eyes widened. “This must be your favorite time of the year. Summer vacation.”
“It is.” Jamie poked Krista in the side.
Krista nodded since for whatever reason, her mouth still wasn’t working.
“Are you always so quiet?” Neil smirked. A tiny dimple formed on his chin. She loved a man with dimples.
“Usually she won’t shut up.” Jamie giggled. “What’s up, Krista?”
“I love your name by the way.” His blue eyes locked on her.
“Thank you.” She finally managed a word.
He took a long drink then set the cup down on the table. He sat back, pulling one leg up and resting his ankle on the opposite knee. “I’m going to be frank. When I see something I like, I go after it. And I like what I see, Krista. Are you single?”
His bluntness caused a wave of pleasure to ripple though her. “I am.”
“I’m attracted to you very much, but I don’t want to waste my time if you don’t feel the same.” He paused, staring at her with a longing in his eyes. Finally, he moistened his lips. “That isn’t entirely true. If you weren’t interested in me, I’d try harder. I don’t like not getting what I want, and I want you.”

They think they’re fooling their parents, but really, the joke’s on them.

Kayla Ames’s parents could win an award in meddling. Every time she turns around, they’re setting her up with someone new. Try as she might, she can’t convince them to butt out of her love life.

Ryan Newell isn’t looking for love. After having his heart torn to shreds by his ex, he’s determined to never again fall in love and leave himself that vulnerable to being hurt. His parents, however, believe he just needs some help finding the right woman, and their friends’ daughter, Kayla, might be a perfect match.

Realizing they both have the same problem—parents who won’t stop nagging them about finding a partner—Ryan and Kayla agree to an arrangement of sorts. All they have to do is pretend to date, and they don’t even have to see each other, they can discuss the details of their “dates” via email. But then the email conversations lead to real dates, and Kayla finds herself struggling to keep her feelings for Ryan in check as he’s made it clear love will not enter into the equation for him. Then Kayla’s parents suddenly announce they’re getting a divorce, and she begins to wonder if maybe Ryan has the right idea.

When it all gets to be too much for Kayla, she has a hard decision to make—agree to stay with Ryan and never experience love, or walk away for her chance to find it.

Excerpt 1:
Leaning forward, Kayla grabbed the remote and turned the TV off. It was early still and since she wasn't tired, sleep wasn't an option. She could go out again. Maybe call a friend to go to a club or something. Or she could go back to the bar from last night…no, no she couldn't.

If she went out though, she'd have to change. And she was really comfortable. She grabbed the remote again, and as the TV turned on, she swore she heard someone tap on her door. Was Bunny chewing on something she shouldn't be?

Kayla got off the couch, but saw the rabbit had taken a corner and was lying there, far away from the front door. She peeked through the peephole and, to her surprise, she saw Doug, or whatever his name was. Why was he there? And what was he carrying in his hands?

Taking a deep breath, she opened the door. "Hi."

"It's nice to see you again." He smiled an oh-so-sexy grin. "Your parents sent me with food. They insisted I get this to you right away."

"They did, huh?"

He held the bag out to her and she took it. "Could I come in?"

She sucked in her bottom lip and weighed her choices. Send him away and be done with this, or see what he wants. What did she have to lose? "Sure."

Doug brushed past her into her house. She stood back a moment, watching him as he glanced around and then finally took a seat on her couch. Kayla joined the mystery man in the living room, tossing the bag of food on the coffee table as she sat on the love seat opposite of the couch he was on. Her stomach rumbled as she inhaled the aroma from the bag now sitting on the coffee table.

"So, what brings you by, besides the food?" she asked, and quickly added, "Please tell me your real name as well. It's only fair since you know mine."

"Kayla, and it's a lovely name. Mine is actually Ryan. Ryan Newell." He took a moment to rub his temple and proceeded. "Obviously, our parents are interested in us hooking up."

Hooking up…they'd covered that already. "I'm sorry. My parents are a bit over the top."

"I'd have to agree. Yours are a little worse than mine. Usually my parents leave me alone, but with your folks, it was like they were double-teaming me. They feel very strongly about you and I getting to know one another."

"Figures. I'd say we accomplished that in a way they probably weren't wanting."

He grinned again. Her heart fluttered. She needed to pack this man up and get him out of there.

"Why don't we give them what they want?"

What did he say? He couldn't really want to go along with them. "Excuse me."

"Let's date, for them. It'll get them to leave us alone."

She laughed. He wasn't serious, was he? "Brilliant plan, but I'll pass for now."

"Just hear me out. I'm not looking to fall in love. But if we pretend to be dating, our parents won't try to set us up anymore. We don't even have to see one another. We can discuss our dates and be on the same page with our stories."

"Wait." She held her hand up, staring at the dark-haired man that made her stomach do summersaults. "You're saying we aren't going to actually date. We never have to see one another. But our parents will think we are."

He nodded.

"I'm in." Kayla shrugged. "What could go wrong?"

Book Spotlight - It Must Be Fate By Lacey Wolfe

Sometimes the future lies in the past…

Sandy Collins hasn’t thought about him in years, not since he broke her heart and broke off their engagement. She’s built a great nursing career for herself, and most of all, she’s happy. Until she ruined it by walking into that staff meeting…

After the passing of his grandmother, Daniel and his daughter Keri have moved back to town and taken up residence in her house. Things are looking up after several rough years, but on the first day of work at his new job as a pediatrician, Daniel gets an unexpected surprise—in the form of a nurse he’s never been able to forget.

As much as she tries to fight it, Sandy can’t deny the attraction. Daniel makes it clear that he’s sorry and wants another shot, and he’s willing to do whatever it takes. But the last thing Sandy wants is to relive the misery from the past. But how can she resist when it seems as though fate is stepping in?

Grabbing her purse, Sandy tossed in her phone and keys and climbed out of the car. Her breath caught from the sight of him. Daniel was waiting for her by the door. She could tell he’d come from the office in his pressed khakis and light blue button-down shirt. His green eyes lit up when he saw her.
She took a deep breath and stared across the parking lot. She smiled at him, but couldn’t find the words to say hello. His gaze swept over her body as he opened the door with a gentlemanly smile. She couldn’t help but be glad he seemed to appreciate what he saw. As she entered the restaurant, she wondered if he was checking out her ass.
After they were seated, a waiter arrived, placing a bow of chips and salsa on the table. After they gave their drink order, she finally started to relax. Which hadn’t been easy. It had been so long since she’d actually talked to him, other than telling him she didn’t want to. Her stomach was in knots.
“Thank you for meeting me.” Daniel grabbed a chip.
“You’re right. We do need to talk. I’m not sure how long we’ll work together, but for the time being I guess we should be friendly.” Sandy took a chip as well. “Besides, the past is the past. Let’s leave it there.”
“For the most part, we can.”
“This is the one and only time I’ll talk about it. So whatever it is that’s been eating you up, get it out now. Because reminiscing over a broken engagement isn’t my idea of a good time.”
“Mine either.”
The waiter reappeared and asked if they were ready to order. “You go ahead. Oh, wait.” He winked and her heart fluttered. “Let me guess, you’re going to get a taco salad with shredded chicken. No guacamole or sour cream, with extra cheese if possible.”
The waiter glanced at her, but she stared across at Daniel wondering how he had remembered her order after all these years.
“Ma’am?” The waiter held his pen to his notepad.
“Uh, yeah. What he said.”
“And for you?” He turned his focus to Daniel, scribbling her order down.
She took a deep breath, hoping her heart would calm down.
“The beef fajitas with extra onions.” He handed the menu back to the waiter.
Sandy took a sip of her drink and returned to the chips and salsa. She kept her focus on the red tablecloth. Looking at Daniel right now would be hard. She needed time to wrap her head around the way he was making her feel. All these old emotions were creeping in. Somehow she had to push them back where they belonged.

With complications in her pregnancy, Diane is forced to move back to Brookfield to be under the care of her family. All she has to do is keep her feelings for Matt in check and she can stick to her original plan—raise the baby with Tom.

But it seems Matt has a few choice words about that…

Excerpt

Diane set the brush down after combing out all her tangles. All she needed was a light layer of makeup and she’d be ready. Tom was supposed to be coming today and she couldn’t wait to see him. The last few days, she’d been feeling like herself again. Maybe it was time to go home. As much as she wanted to stay in Brookfield, she wasn’t sure it was right.

Matt had been leaving her alone. Aside from one day he’d left some bakery items for her with Alyssa. He hadn’t done it again. Diane wasn’t sure if this was a good or bad thing. One moment he’d been adamant about being in her life and now he was gone.

She needed to stop thinking about him and especially stop wanting him. But she’d always been attracted to him, even when he’d dated Alyssa. She found herself making eyes at him though she knew it was wrong. But when it had come to Matt, she threw all morals out the window. And she couldn’t do that anymore. She had a baby to think of.

After turning off the bathroom light, she went into the living room to sit and rest a few. She wanted to get out for a bit, maybe go see a movie. That required sitting and would be enjoyable. Hopefully she could convince Tom.  He was acting more and more like a mother hen these days.

A light knock sounded on the door. Diane hopped up and grinned. She opened the door and practically jumped into his arms.

“Wow, I didn’t think you’d be that happy to see me.”

She stepped back and straightened her clothes. This was awkward. How did she explain this. Though it had felt good to have his arms around her again. “Matt, what are you doing here?”

He cocked an eyebrow. “Obviously I wasn’t who you were happy to see.”

“Tom’s supposed to be coming.”

“Can I come in?” he asked nervously.

Was that a good idea? “I don’t know.”

“I promise not to get you upset.”

“Okay.” She motioned for him to enter. She might as well see what he wanted. “This won’t take long, will it?”

Matt glanced at her. “No.”

They sat down on opposite couches but still by each other in the living room. Maybe she should move over a cushion. Diane knew she needed to keep the tension down. But something about this man got her blood pumping. Whether it was hopping in the sack or getting in an argument, she stayed all hot and bothered around him.

“Your sister told me I’m the cause of your stress.”

So that was why he’d been leaving her alone. She was going to kill Alyssa, or was she?

“I don’t want you having this baby early because of me.” He paused. “Or more likely, I don’t want to be the one blamed. If you want, I’ll go away until after you have our son. Just as long as I’m not the one who is blamed if the baby is colicky or something like that. I can’t be the cause of every problem.”

The cause of problems? Where had he gotten this idea from? “Matt, no one blames you—”

“Yes, you and your sister do. Hell, Cody might too. But at least he talks to me to find out my side. All I get from Alyssa is to go away until the baby arrives. As though the problems in this pregnancy were caused by me.” He took a deep breath and continued, “I don’t mean to come here and argue, but I’m tired of being a doormat.”

She hated that he felt that way. “You’re not.”

He snickered. “You just don’t see it. I don’t want to fight or see you get upset. Each time I’ve talked to you has landed you with contractions. But I’m trying. I really am. If you’d let me, I’d be so much more.” His eyes were dark with passion and she knew what he meant. “But I understand you’re with Tom.”

“I’m—”

“Don’t apologize. I let you go. One of my biggest mistakes.”

Diane didn’t even realize she was standing or know how she got onto the same couch with Matt. But her lips found his and when they touched, all was right again. They stayed still a moment with just their lips touching. God, she wanted this man. But as she wrapped a hand around his neck to deepen the kiss, she felt him resist. She pulled back and gazed into his eyes.

“Why did you do that?” he asked.

She sat frozen, staring at him. “I, uh. I don’t know.”

“We can’t do that.”

Matt was telling her no. He’d told her he wanted her. And she’d kissed him. Now he was telling her he couldn’t do this. Wow, she was really confused. She wiped her hands across her pants before she stood and paced a little. Her cheeks burned from embarrassment. This man was going to drive her insane.

“Please, sit.” He patted the couch.

“No. I’m not going to sit down. I’m sick and tired of everyone telling me to sit down. Everyone thinks they know what I need or want. But they don’t.” She placed her hands on her hips. “Maybe I want you too.”

“What about Tom?”

“What about me?” Tom appeared.
