Pagan Writers Birthday Bash - Morrigan Giveaway

Morrigan Blurb-Coming November 2012 from Pagan Writers Press
Shuffled from place to place in the foster system, Morrigan doesn't know the meaning of home. Plus, she is different. She has power over fire, the ability to move objects with her mind, and glimpse into the future. Just when she believes her life can’t get any stranger, she discovers her true identity.

Filtiarn, a knight with a dark past and a surprising secret, has been tasked with guiding the heir of Tír na NÓg through countless perils to be returned to her family. Once Morrigan has been reunited with her mother and grandmother, their triad can save the forgotten land of magic from being devoured by an ancient evil.

Excerpt

“Guardians!” A low snarl emanated from the back of his throat. “What are you doing with Guardians?”
“Stop it! Sit down!”
Morrigan wasn’t sure who she was addressing, the man or the animals. Luckily, they both obeyed her command. She stepped in between them to avoid any further confrontations. The cats took a seat on either side her legs, but their posture hardly relaxed. They still glared warily at the newcomer, even though their hisses died down to an occasional soft growl.

“Dirty, filthy beasts!” Tiarn snarled as he climbed to his feet. “I hate Guardians.”

“They’re just little cats,” Morrigan told him. “What’s the big deal?”

“Just cats! Hah!” He was standing at a careful distance, even though they had started licking their paws nonchalantly. “They are much more than simple cats! Though even those I find distasteful.”
Morrigan narrowed her eyes. “What do you mean?”
“Never mind. It does not matter.” Tiarn dismissed her question with a wave of his hand. “They are not coming with us."

“They most certainly are coming!”

Tiarn growled again. “I beg to differ with you, Your Highness. They would only get in the way. Possibly even get killed.”

Danu raised her head from her grooming to hiss at him again, as though she had taken that last statement as a personal threat. The strange reaction of her faithful sidekicks made Morrigan wonder again just how much Tiarn could be trusted. She also wondered why, when she wasn’t sure she could trust him, she still felt the undeniable urge to wrap her arms around his neck and kiss him.

“If they stay here alone, they’ll definitely get killed or at least sent to the pound,” Morrigan told him. “I can’t let that happen. So, they’re coming. End of story.”

Tiarn’s eyes flashed dangerously, and he looked like he wanted to argue, but thought better of it. “Very well, Princess. Bring your mongrel felines. Just keep in mind that Guardians and lycans do not mix well.”
“Lycans?” Morrigan repeated.

A sick feeling started to settle in her stomach, as the truth of his words sunk in. It all started to make sense—his hairy arms and chest, his reaction to the cats, even his earlier comment about smelling her out. Her dark knight had a much darker side than she had ever seen in her dreams.

“Why yes, Your Majesty. Did you not realize? You are a witch and a sorceress. And I, your faithful traveling companion, am a lycan—a werewolf.”

Interview with Pagan Writers Press Author Ashley Rae

By the age of twelve, Ashley Rae had survived incest, child abuse, and the deaths of both her biological parents. Born to Baptists but raised by Buddhists, Rae found peace and healing on a Pagan spiritual path while obtaining her college degree and starting the career of her dreams.

Rae thought the hardships in her life were over...until she lost her job, started a new relationship, and found out she was pregnant with another man's child all in the same week. Terrified of cesarean surgery, Rae vowed to give birth to her child at home – but first, she had to find one.

Alternately haunting, humorous, and heart-warming, Not My Mother: A Memoir follows Rae over a nine-month quest to break her family's generational pattern of abuse and victimhood in order to become for her unborn child the mother she had always wanted for herself.

 About the Author

Ashley Rae puts on fantastically awesome weekend retreats at All World Acres in Plant City, writes meditations, blogs, articles, and books, teaches reading comprehension, creative writing, divination, and self-healing techniques, and freaking loves her life.

 Interview with Ashley Rae

Did you find it difficult sharing so much of your personal life with the world?

No, I have no shame.  My nickname in college was “Queen TMI.”

Any other books in the works?

Yes, I'm working on the sequel to my first memoir, in which I explore how I hit Rock Bottom and turned my life around, curing the Major Depressive Disorder that plagued my life in the process.

I'm also working on fun and practical workbooks for Chakra Healing, Intuitive Tarot, and Writing to Heal.

Do you think you’ll ever try your hand at fiction?

Yes, I think fiction will be a fun challenge.

If your memoir was made into a movie, who would you choose to play you?
Drew Barrymore.  Angelica Houston for my mom.  It'd be like Ever After, but totally      different.

Tell us one of your guilty pleasures.

Wait, I'm supposed to feel guilty about my pleasure?  ;)  Paranormal Romance, especially ones that feature vampires, shapeshifters, and/or faeries.

Do you have any quirky writing habits?

I write in my head while I'm driving and dictate it into the voice memo feature on my phone.  Is that quirky, or perfectly normal?

I know you also work as a life coach. Tell us a little about the work you do.

I developed my Love Your Life Coaching practice last year after I realized that my greatest joy in life came from helping people figure out what they wanted and how to get it.  I have served as a professional psychic for nearly a decade now, and I realized that my favorite readings were the ones where my clients new they wanted to change something about their lives and came to me to figure out what and how.

The difference between a psychic reading and a life coaching session is that in a psychic reading, the psychic is giving all the answers, while in a life coaching session, the life coach is guiding her client to the answers that are already inside her client.

In both services I connect intimately with the energy of my client and use my intuition to guide everything I say.  But in life coaching, I'm asking questions, listening with my whole being, inspiring epiphanies, and assigning homework.  We start each session with an objective, the goal we intend to achieve in the alloted time.  The first session is often making a list of all the aspects of the client's life that he or she would like to change and picking one to focus on for that session.  Then we explore the problem, the feelings associated with the problem, and what the client is ready to do to solve it presently.  The client leaves the session with a plan of action, which may include homework assigned by me, and we have a follow up email or call after the session.  It's the most fun and rewarding work I've ever taken up (outside of parenting.)

You faced a lot of adversity in your life, but you overcame it. What advice do you have for young girls who may be facing similar struggles?
Ask for help.  You deserve to be happy and healthy.  There are good people out there who want to help you.  You don't have to do it all yourself.  You are not alone.

That goes for everyone who struggles, regardless of age, gender, or type of struggle.

Who are some of your favorite authors?
Dianne Sylvan, Kim Harrison, Lynsay Sands, JK Rowling, PC Cast, and many more.

What song to you think would make a great theme song for your book?

Because of You by Kelly Clarkson is the one I was fantasizing being in the book trailer video.  I think it needs something more uplifting, though.  Maybe I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor.  That would make people laugh at the end credits if it were a movie.  Unwritten by Natasha Beddinfield is a song I often sang while writing my first memoir.  Hero by Mariah Carey?  Okay, now I've chosen half a soundtrack.

Meet Pagan Writers Press Owner Angelique Mroczka

In the midst of all the fun of the Pagan Writers Press Birthday Bash, there is one very important person that we can't forget to mention. Without the beautiful and talented Angelique Mroczka there would be no  Pagan Writers Press. Angie has worked tirelessly to bring so many people's dreams to life this past year. She puts in endless hours typesetting, designing covers, going over submissions and so much more. She somehow manages to do all this in addition to working a full time job raising an infant. I am honored to have Angie as my publisher and to be able to call her my friend. I am excited to have her visiting my blog today to talk about what its like to be a small press publisher. Here are the questions that I had for Angie.

What made you decide to go into the publishing business?

I had been working with authors for quite a while through the Pagan Writers Community.  They would often vent their frustration about their publishers or the difficulty in getting their books to readers.  I decided to build a publishing company that focused on the author.  I believe that without the author, there is no company.  Pagan Writers Press is the result of that.

What are some challenges you face as a small press publisher?

I think that most of the major challenges of being a small press come back to one
word—money.  I do the typesetting, eBook conversions, process orders, and accounting all by myself.  It makes for long days, but holding a completed book in my hand and seeing the images of my authors holding theirs is what makes the whole process worth it for me.
Are you currently accepting submissions? If so, what types of works are you looking for?

We could use a few more titles to round out our 2013 line.  The majority of books we have slated for next year are fiction so I would like to add a few non-fiction titles along with at least one more anthology and a book on the writing craft.

Do you plan on writing any books of your own?

I do write and plan to continue to do so.  I may even deem my own work ready for publishing one of these days.
This November I will be participating in National Novel Writing Month.  The project that I am working on is a sci-fi/fantasy trilogy for young adults called Hera 2.0.  It is my first attempt to write for a younger audience, so I’m a bit nervous and excited at the same time.

What is your all-time favorite novel?
My favorite novel of all time is Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand.  I read it the summer after I graduated high school, couldn’t put it down.  I’ve lent at least three copies of the book out and never gotten them back.  I am getting ready to purchase the book again, but this time for my Kindle.
I also really enjoyed the Harry Potter series, the Percy Jackson series, and all of the books that I have contracted myself.  I will not publish anything that I don’t love and believe in—period.

I know you have a family and a full time job in addition to your publishing business. How do you
manage to juggle all your responsibilities?
I am one of those crazy people who live to be busy.  I almost always have several irons in the fire, something that needs to be done or something that I would like to do.  Recently, I have come across the word for such a person—a renaissance soul.
Having my son last year has given me a reason to slow down and spend more time in the moment.  Becoming a mom has truly been an amazing experience, both challenging and fun.
The real reason that I ever get anything done is my husband, Scott.  Not only is he my best friend, but he stays home with my son during the day and makes sure I do things like eat, sleep, and have clean clothes.  He also checks in on how the publishing business is going from time to time and is a writer himself.  Christie, he wants to know when The Purple Heart will be ready to go so you better get on it!

Tell us five random fun facts about yourself.
Five fun facts, huh …
Well, I’m a licensed pilot who actually wanted to be an astronaut when she grew up.  My favorite color is green.  I have a passion for art and am an artist myself.  Not only do I like to write to techno and new age music, but I also concentrate well to heavy metal.  I’m also a legally ordained Jedi Knight (long story).

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Your writing is a sacred product of you.  Not everyone is going to understand it or even like it, but that doesn’t matter.  What matters is that it is your creation.  It is a courageous act against the silence of the blank page.  Treat it with the respect that it deserves and if you decide to publish it, make sure it is with a publisher that respects it and your voice as well.

What are your goals for the next year?
I am terrible about following through with resolutions.  The biggest one is that I would like to finish the first book in the Hera 2.0 series.  I would also like to get a good start on researching my non-fiction title.  Through the business, I would like to keep the pace slow and steady.  For Pagan Writers Press, next year I hope to start working on the Pagan Writers magazine (if not sooner).

Finally, in the spirit of Halloween, what do you think would be etched into your tombstone?
Here lies Angelique Mroczka—Mother, wife, entrepreneur, artist, publisher, reader, blogger, web designer, and true friend who finally found time to die.

Grant and Lanie have secretly been pining for one another since they were children.

Now grown up, they finally admit their feelings for each other and what ensues is a twisted tale of deception as Dane does everything he can to stop them.

The story weaves around this uneven love triangle. What will happen to the pact? Will friendships be destroyed? Will lovers emerge?
