Young Adult Faeries & Fantasy Hop - Win a Morrigan Prize Pack

I Am A Reader Not A Writer is hosting a fun blog hop all about fairies in young adult novels. If you read Morrigan, you'll know there are a few scenes that involve the whimsical Fae. Of course, I gave them my own unique twist, because not all fairies have wings. If you haven't read Morrigan yet, here is a little more about the book:

Shuffled from place to place in the foster system, Morrigan doesn't know the meaning of home. Plus, she is different. She has power over fire, the ability to move objects with her mind, and glimpse into the future. Just when she believes her life can't get any stranger, she discovers her true identity. Filtiarn, a knight with a dark past and a surprising secret, has been tasked with guiding the heir of Tír na NÓg through countless perils to be returned to her family. Once Morrigan has been reunited with her mother and grandmother, their triad can save the forgotten land of magic from being devoured by an ancient evil.

Enchanted Garden DVD Review

Nine-year old Serena Hanna narrates this charming tale about the beauty of creation, told mainly through music and dance, when one magickal day the veil between the worlds is lifted and she discovers hidden realms in her own backyard. Fairies, mermaids and other mythical creatures beckon her to follow s she learns about earth, air, fire and water, the dance of nature and the unity of all things. A mesmerizing and educational adventure filled with original music, dance and dazzling colors. Suitable for children of all ages. 2009.

Where to Buy

Get your copy of The Enchanted Garden DVD at the Belly Dance America Store for only $14.95.

My Thoughts:

The Enchanted Garden is simply breathtaking! The music is enchanting and the dancing is elegant and graceful. The story follows the tale of a little girl who finds herself in the world of the fae when the veil between worlds is lifted. She meets fairies and mermaids and all other types of mythical creatures. They are dressed in vibrant and beautiful colors that left my three year old riveted and even my twelve year old daughter couldn't tear her eyes away.  The story may seem like its pure fantasy with fairies and other magical beings, but there are also many lessons in the story. Children will learn about the magic of the elements and the unity of all things. It also encourages them to enjoy the art of music and dance. As an adult, I even enjoyed the bright, colorful costumes and pagan theme. There are chants I know well and have used in ritual. I would recommend this DVD to anyone who enjoys fantasy or follows a New Age path.

My new novel, Destiny Unveiled, will be coming out in May through Free Focus Publishing.  This book is the sequel to my debut novel, Destiny, and is the continuing story of a pair teenage witches. Up until the release, I plan on bringing you tons of truly witchy giveaways, starting with a pair of wicked Ear Wings from Artlandish Creations. We worked together on a giveaway for Phantom as well, and I'm excited that  Artlandish Creations is back for some more fun.

Artlandish Creations designs fantasy themed ear wings that are perfect for Halloween, dress up, or just some every day fun. She has dozens of designs to choose from including fairies and butterflies, and if you walk on the darker side, there are also praying skeletons, helping hands and bats wings.  The detail on the wings is amazing. They look just like real wings, but they are made from soft material looped around a silver base. The base can be adjusted to fit any size ear. We have a pair of the fairy wings, and I was able to wear them myself, but they also fit both of my children.  They are not only cute, but work as a headband to help keep your hair out of your eyes. For all my pagan friends out there,  they would make a unique addition to ritual wear, especially Beltane, which is coming up in just a few short weeks.

You can order your own ear wings on the Artlandish Creations Etsy Shop for only $12.50. They are also available online in an Australian shop called Making Faces Australia. Check them out today and bring a little magic into your life.

#Phantom is Coming! Win a Phantom of the Opera Necklace from Amber Sunset!

I have always loved bottle cap jewelry.  They are a wonderful way to reduce, reuse and recycle. Instead of tossing those caps in an ever growing pile of trash, shops like Amber Sunset are using them to create fun and funky jewelry like earrings and necklaces. You can put pretty much any design on them, and they are an affordable option for kids. What I really like about Amber Sunset is  that they have lots of options that appeal to boys, like Sonic and Pokemon, which is something that isn't always easy to find. But there are also plenty of choices for the girls. My daughter loves the Beauty and the Beast earrings! With Easter/Ostara coming up next month, these pretty trinkets would be a fun surprise to find inside one of those plastic eggs. And at only $5 for a necklace or $10 for earrings, you can afford to get one for each of the kids.

The item that caught my eye the in the Amber Sunset Etsy Shop was, of course, the Phantom of the Opera Necklace.  It shows the classic image that is the signature of Andrew Lloyd Weber's play. Each pendant is made from glossy paper that is sealed in an epoxy dome. It even comes with a lovely 24 inch silver plated ball chain. This is a must have for any Phantom lover.  In addition to the pendant, you can also pick up a matching set of earrings.

To help celebrate the release of Phantom, one lucky winner is going to receive the adorable Phantom of the Opera necklace shown in the photo above. To enter, just complete the Rafflecopter form below. You will be able to enter this giveaway at both the New Age Mama and Author Laura DeLuca blogs. You only need to enter ONCE. Please do not enter on both blogs. Entries will be merged and one winner will be chosen. Giveaway will end on 3/9/12 and is open to the US only. Winners will be notified via email and will have 48 hours to reply. Thanks again to Amber Sunset for offering this great prize.

Sara B Illustrations Review & Giveaway

As a writer of fantasy, I often find inspiration in the beautiful artwork of others. I have a little corner in my room that is my workspace. Its where I hand write the first draft of all my books. In that corner, I have all my favorite statues, carvings, crystals, and art prints of all things mystical including Goddesses, Gods, elves, and of course whimsical fairies. I am very happy to have a new addition to my collection--a beautiful art print by Sara B Illustrations. This is the type of art work that will make anyone's imagination soar.

For my review, I received an art print entitled, "Celtic Fairy in Forest". Of course this would appeal to me as a Celtic Wiccan, but its only one of dozens of beautiful prints that will make you feel like you just parted the mists and entered the world of fairy. When I look at this print, I feel as though I could step right through those mists and join the maiden fairy in her domain. The fairy is so incredibly detailed, from her ivy covered gown to her crown of antlers. The butterflies fluttering around her, the little birds on her wrist and shoulder, and mushrooms around her feet, are all pleasant reminders that spring and rebirth it brings are never too far away.

The Celtic fairy is only one example so many lovely art prints available from Sarah B Illustrations. She  also creates magical mermaids, warrior angels, and even grumpy old trolls. In addition to the art prints, you can purchase bookmarks, postcards, and ornaments that can be used all year long but which would certainly add a touch of magic to your holiday tree. If you want to add some of this beautiful artwork to your collections, you can visit the Sara B Illustrations Etsy shop.

One lucky winner is going to receive a Grumpy Troll card deck. This game is similar to Old Maid but created using Sara's amazing artwork. To enter, just complete the Rafflecopter form below. You will be able to enter this giveaway at both the New Age Mama and Author Laura DeLuca blogs. You only need to enter ONCE. Please do not enter on both blogs. Entries will be merged and one winner will be chosen.  Winners will be notified via email and will have 48 hours to reply. Thanks again to Sarah B Illustrations for offering this great prize.

Artlandish Creations Ear Wings Review & Giveaway

Fairies are magical and whimsical creatures. I think when I am playing with my girls and we are pretending that we are in a mystical land where unicorns and fairies live, I enjoy it even more than they do. Of course I know that fairies aren't just make believe. Every time I see a dragonfly or a butterfly, I tell them my wishes to carry back to the magical world of the fairies. Its there, somewhere behind the parted mists. You just need to believe in it. With Artlandish Creations' beautiful Fairy Ear Wings, you can bring a little of that fairy magic into your lives every day.

For my review, I received a set of the beautiful Pink Butterfly Fairy Ear Wings. My kids thought they were amazing and a great addition to dress up time. Wearing the earrings makes them feel like a fairy princess. The detail on the wings is amazing. They look just like real butterfly wings when you look at them, but they are made from soft material looped around a silver base. The base can be adjusted to fit any size ear. I was able to use them on myself, as well as my two year old and eleven year old children.  They are not only cute, but work as a headband to help keep your hair out of your eyes. For all my pagan friends out there, I also thought they would make a unique addition to ritual wear, especially Beltane.

In addition to the fairy ear wings, you can also choose from enchanting creations like dragons, praying skeletons, sea horses and more. They are the perfect choice for Halloween, but also great for pretend play or special occasions like birthdays and holidays. You can order your own ear wings on the Artlandish Creations Etsy Shop for only $12.50. They are also available online in an Australian shop called Making Faces Australia. Check them out today and bring a little magic into your life.

Fantasy Clay Review & Giveaway

I am a writer of fantasy, so of course I love fairies, dragons, unicorns and all things whimsical. I collect all types of fantasy items from prints, to statues, to jewelry. Its a way of bringing a little magic into my everyday life. Recently I came across an adorable little shop on Artfire called Fantasy Clay that creates amazing works of handmade art using polymer clay. Each piece is a unique, one of a kind creation. They are fun to collect and beautiful to look at.

For my review, I received the adorable polymer clay Flying Dragon Necklace. This combines two of my favorite things, artwork and jewelry. When I saw the picture, I was a little worried that the necklace would be heavy and uncomfortable, but it is surprisingly lightweight. You won't even realize your wearing it. The dragon is exquisitely detailed from his life like gaze to the leaves on his wings. Interwoven into the wings are multi colored beads and he is clutching a quartz crystal in his hands. In addition to using it as a necklace, its also perfect for hanging from your mirror in your car to bring a little magic and protection everywhere you go.

Dragons are only one example of the mystical creatures lurking around every corner at Fantasy Clay. You can also find aliens, owls, angels, woodland fairies and more. They also offer some cute holiday figures, like elves and Santa. If you aren't into fantasy knick knacks, but you are planning a wedding, they also design custom cake toppers. All of their pieces are one of a kind and are available at every day low prices. If you are a collector of fantasy art, this is a shop you will definitely want to visit.

One very lucky winner is going to receive a gift certificate for $25 to the Fantasy Clay Artfire shop. To enter, just visit Fantasy Clay and tell me your favorite piece. Music to Write By - Gary Stadler's Fairy Night Songs

When I sit down to work on my novels, I like to have some music in the background. This not only helps to block out the sound of  my kids running around and fighting in the background, but can also help keep the inspiration flowing. Everyone has their own taste in music, but for me, there is one CD in particular that I almost always listen to when I'm writing. Its a CD that is filled with the kind of magic and enchantment that I try to get across in my writing. That CD is called "Fairy Night Songs" and was composed by the amazing artist Gary Stadler.

I came across Gary's music completely by chance. Or maybe it was divine intervention. I was looking for songs with my name in them, and one of the songs that came up on Napster was  "Laura's Hill".  After listening to a clip, I knew the CD had to be mine. That was more than five years ago, and it is still my favorite music.  The CD offers beautiful melodies composed and preformed by Gary with the late Singh Kaur providing vocals that are so inspiring you may think the fairies themselves are singing just for you.

You don't have to be a writer to appreciate the otherworldly aspect of this music.  Anyone who loves the world of fairy will fall in love with this CD.  Listening to it is like lifting the veil that separates our world from the world of magic. Each song brings you deeper into the fairy realm, and this is what helps to make  imagination take flight.  I can, and have, listened to this CD thousands of times and it never loses its mysticism. Check out the video below to hear a small sample of what "Fairy Night Songs" has to offer.

You can learn all about "Fairy Night Songs", as well as Gary's other CDs on his website, Heart Magic. "Fairy Night Songs" was one of his earlier works and since the last time I checked, I see has has a few new releases which I definitely intend on purchasing! For anyone who loves fantasy, new age music, or anything mystical, Gary Stadler is an artist you just can't pass by.
