Box Set: The Rags and Riches Series by Emily Wood

SOR The Rags and Riches Series VBT 2 Banner

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Sometimes you can find love in the most unexpected places.
Sparks fly as three couples who seem all wrong for each other tackle the obstacles thrown in their way in search of true love. Opposites attract, yet those opposites might actually have far more in common than they think. Can social divisions and personal barriers be overcome in order to find a happily ever after together?

Business and Pleasure:
When sexy, rich Lawrence Russo asks Mia to come and work for him in Italy for two weeks, she jumps at the chance. After all, it beats pole dancing, and the salary he offers her is practically obscene. A relationship quickly begins to develop between the two, but Mia can’t help but wonder if Lawrence’s feelings for her are genuine or if he feels he’s just paying for a service.

The Best of Both Worlds:
Melissa Morgan seems to have it all—her modeling career is taking off and she’s engaged to one of the most eligible bachelors in London. But when she finds Jonathan cheating on her again, she finds solace in the arms of Riley, a sexy bar owner trying to recover from the heartbreak of his last relationship. Melissa shouldn’t even want Riley, but she can’t seem to stay away, especially when she finds in him everything that’s missing in her relationship with Jonathan.

The Right Kind of Wrong:
Harriet Jones has spent years trying to win her father’s affection, but time and time again she’s been left feeling that she just isn’t good enough. When she starts to fall for her rough-around-the-edges neighbor she knows her father would never approve. All he will see is man who was just released from jail, not a man who’s determined to turn his life around.

Content Warning: contains explicit sex and strong language

SORM excerpt

Business and Pleasure Excerpt:

“I’ve been watching you, Mia.”

“I’ve noticed.” She took a step in his direction and looked challengingly into his dark eyes. “So, do you like what you see?”

They were close enough to touch, and Mia’s every nerve was tingling, hoping to feel his fingers on her skin. He swayed forward and, for a moment, she thought he was going to kiss her, but he leaned toward her ear instead. “I have a business proposition for you,” he breathed, sending a shiver through her body before he pulled away from her.

It took Mia a moment to compose herself, and his eyes sparkled with amusement. No doubt he was enjoying her confusion. “Business…a business proposition?” Mia attempted to sound as casual as she possibly could.

“I’m returning to my home in Tuscany tomorrow,” he announced.

Mia felt her heart sink but was determined not to let it show. “Oh, it must be beautiful in Italy this time of year. But what does that have to do with me?”

“I was hoping you would accompany me.”

The Best of Both Worlds Excerpt:

“Can I come in? Or are we going to do this on the doorstep?” Melissa laughed nervously.

Do what? Riley wondered, but he stepped aside to let her in without question. He couldn’t help but glance down at her behind as she walked past him. It was mighty fine, but he felt so guilty for checking her out. She was engaged for God’s sake! To one of the richest bachelors in London, no less. She wasn’t for him. He took a deep breath and followed her into the bar.

“I wanted to thank you for last night,” Melissa said as she turned to him. He could smell her sweet perfume. It was like heaven.

“Oh, okay.” That sounded like something she could easily have done on the doorstep.

“I, um…also wanted to apologize for…you know.” Melissa was blushing. It was an endearing sight. Riley remembered her trying to kiss him and his reaction.

“It’s all right. I won’t be telling anybody about it, if that’s what you’re worried about.” Riley understood now, she was there covering her tracks, worried that the story about the hot, young model coming on to the barman would get out. Like he was thinking earlier, these girls were too full of their own self-importance.

“I wasn’t worried about anything.” Melissa folded her arms and scowled at him. “I wanted to apologize to you. I thought I might have offended you.”

“I wasn’t offended. I just don’t have any time for a drunk, rich girl who’s after a naughty little fling to entertain herself.” Riley knew he needed to get rid of her, he couldn’t think straight when she was around. Despite what he was telling her, a naughty little fling with her sounded pretty good to him right now.

“What if I want more than a naughty little fling?”

The Right Kind of Wrong Excerpt:

“Can I kiss you again?” Jamie asked. There was a fleeting moment of indecision in his eyes, like maybe he shouldn’t, but all Harriet wanted was for him to kiss her again.

“Yes.” Her voice was trembling. There were so many reasons why she should have said no. But she wanted this. She wanted Jamie.

His eyes fixed on hers until his soft lips found hers. Harriet savored his gentle kiss this time, marveling at his skill to ignite a passion within her that she wasn’t even sure she had. When he pulled away, Harriet was left breathless.

“You seem nervous,” he said, taking her hand, which was physically shaking.

“I…I haven’t touched a man since my husband and I separated,” Harriet admitted.

Jamie’s eyebrows shot up in surprise. “You seem too young to have been married already.”

“Yes, well, it didn’t work out,” Harriet said bitterly. She looked away, trying to push down the emotions that threatened to resurface—rejection, abandonment, the feeling of never being good enough. But she was good at controlling the pain by now; she’d been doing it ever since she was a child.

“I’m sorry.” The fire between them was in danger of fizzling out as they stood there awkwardly, but then Jamie kissed her hand. “Anybody would be a fool to leave you.”

Jamie pulled her closer and started kissing her again. He tasted of beer, and Harriet hated the taste usually, but like with everything else, he made the wrong seem so right, and she loved it.

She kissed him like she couldn’t get enough. Boldly, Harriet raised her hands up to cup his face, the beginnings of stubble feeling grainy against her palms. She was more turned on than she could ever remember. Harriet pulled away, suddenly nervous. It wasn’t like her to do things like this, and it scared her just how much she wanted it.

“It’s okay, we don’t have to take this any further. We don’t really know each other,” Jamie said a little breathlessly.

Harriet tried to hide her disappointment, but she knew he was right, and she wasn’t the kind of girl to be this forward.

“But I’m up for it if you are.” Jamie’s voice was more serious, and his words sent waves of desire through her body.

Given her tendency to overthink things into inaction, she decided to let her body take over. There were a hundred reasons why she shouldn’t do this, but she was going to go with the one reason she should—she wanted to.

I have always believed that the best stories are the ones that you can’t put down, the ones that transport you to a different place and make you believe in the characters. This is exactly why I write… I have always loved the escapism that reading and writing provides, and there is nothing more exciting than imagining your own set of characters, and then letting them practically write the story for you. Writing has always been a dream of mine, and I’m lucky to have the kind of people around me that have always nurtured and encouraged my passion.
I live a cozy little life in Wales, and when I’m not writing I’m taking care of my young family, studying for a degree in Classical Studies, and training to become a nail technician. Book Spotlight - One Dance with a Stranger by Ju Ephraime

SOR One Dance with a Stranger VBT Banner

Genre: Romance
Mesmerized by the sensuous moves of the stranger who danced with her at the Lucian Club, Caitlynn Pilgrim has been trying for almost two years to get him out of her mind, with no success. Until that night, she was perfectly happy with her single life and was not looking for a man to complicate it, but this stranger with his seductive moves has her rethinking that decision. So, for over a year, she has been returning to the club, hoping to run into him and have one more dance with him. Alas, Caitlynn does not know the stranger’s name or even what he looks like. She was so taken with dancing with him, she’d neglected to look into his face, and when she was suddenly called away by her friend, Esther, she’d returned to pick up where she left off only to find him gone.
Andre Cunningham burns with memories of the beautiful, passionate woman he danced with two years ago at the club. He had spotted her as soon as she walked in, waving her hand in the air. He’d danced up to her and, without uttering a word, fitted his body against hers. They moved together as one. She was as fluid as honey, weaving her magic over him, until he was intoxicated. Just as he was about to ask her name, she separated herself from him and went to talk to her friend… she did not return… he was devastated. From that day to now, he has haunted the club every chance he gets, searching for his mysterious dancer, but so far, it has been an effort in futility. This Labor Day will be two years since that unforgettable dance. He hopes this will be the night he reconnects with his mysterious dancer, even if he has to search every corner of the Club. He will not give up until he finds her. She has branded him with her magic, and ruined him for all others.

SORM excerpt

Chapter One
Brooklyn, New York
She could recall the night she met him as if it were yesterday. She and her friend, Esther, had gone to the Lucian Club after the Labor Day parade in Brooklyn, New York. She’d walked into the club ready to dance, and as soon as she hit the floor, she had her hands in the air and she was dancing to the hot beat. The next thing she knew, a man was standing in front of her, dancing right along with her. The sexual heat between them had been intense. Every move she made, he had matched it. She had done a lot of dancing in her time, and no one had ever been able to match her move for move. It was as though they were two halves of a whole; one pulled, and the other responded. She was in such a sexual haze that she was not even aware of her environment. Everything had faded into the background, even the fact that she’d come to the club with her friend. She’d been riding such a high that she believed, had he turned around and thrown her over his shoulder cave-man style, she would not have offered one word of protest but would have gone willingly.
As a matter of fact, the way they carried on had a caveman-like quality about it. So no names were exchanged, no words of greeting, no phone number changed hands—just two people bent on getting as much sexual gratification from dancing as they could.
She was rudely brought back down from her sexual haze when she heard her friend, Esther, calling out to her. Damn, she had forgotten all about the woman. Go away already, she’d thought to herself as she moved even harder against him. When she felt the tap on her shoulder, she was not willing to open her eyes, but she did, and there was Esther, saying she wanted to leave.
What was it about people that they couldn’t go to a club, seize the moment, and go with the flow? No, because they were too uptight to have a good time, no one should.
We came here to have a good time.
She was having a good time, so why couldn’t Esther just go away? She turned around to tell her to get lost, but one look at her sad face, and the words died in her throat. She reluctantly released her partner and walked outside of the club with her.
“What’s up, Esther?”
“I want to leave.”
“Why? I thought you came here to have a good time.”

My Thoughts

Rupert's Tales: A Book of Bedtime Stories, is a collection of adorable stories about a little rabbit named Rupert. Each story is beautifully illustrated with lifelike images of Rubert and his forest friends, and each short story teaches a valuable lesson.

One of the things the book teaches children is that it's important to get a good night's rest in order to make it through the day. He befriends a bat who crashes into a tree because he didn't sleep well the day before, and all the friends discuss how hard it can sometimes be to settle down and go to sleep. They give suggestions on how to make it a little easier. Other stories go on to explain the way that dreaming works, and how each person can control what happens in their dreams, even if it's subconsciously.

My children loved all the stories in Rupert's Tales. They are just the right length to hold their interest and they have grown very attached to the adorable characters. I also love how each story has hints of the pagan religion, such as creating sacred space or saying a blessing. These messages are subtle and someone who isn't familiar with the path would probably not even notice, but as a pagan mom, I am excited to finally have a children's book geared to my religion.

When Talia is in danger, they discover just how strong their relationship is. Can Sean and his sweetheart make things last when horrors from their pasts come back to haunt them and family seems determined to keep them apart?
SORM excerpt
With his hand on the small of her back as a guide, he directed her out the back door to the service alley. He led her over to a big black Harley and held a helmet out to her.
“Uh…” A motorcycle? Why couldn’t he have a sports car or a truck? Of course a tattooed bartender would drive a motorcycle.
The smug look on his face made her want to prove his assumptions wrong. Prove to him she wasn’t a goody-goody, scared shitless to climb on top of a motor with wheels and fly down the road under someone else’s control.
“It’s this or you call someone.”
Screw that.
She snatched the helmet from his hand. Talia gave him the address and fiddled with the strap, trying to figure out how to adjust it. His hands came up to tighten it for her and their fingers brushed. She sucked in a deep breath at his touch. His low chuckle took that spark of anger and kindled it into a blaze of desire. With the street lamps behind him, she couldn’t read his expression. His hand closed over hers for a brief second before he jerked it away. He straddled the bike and pulled his own helmet on.
She climbed on behind him and he started the motor. Talia jumped at the sudden roar of the engine and clung tight to his broad back. His chest shook with laughter beneath her hands. Talia relaxed a bit as the bike moved and they didn’t crash. She slid her arms around his waist and started to enjoy the ride, to enjoy the feel of holding a man.
She’d never been on a motorcycle before. Had never wrapped her arms around a complete stranger like this, either. She didn’t know his name, but she knew the strength in his muscles and the rhythm of his breathing. When she hugged him tighter, her fingers slipped through the button placket on his shirt. Instead of removing her hand, she combed through the tangle of hair on his chest, surprising herself with her boldness. His hand dropped back to squeeze hers for a moment, but he didn’t pull her hand away.
The ride ended too soon when he rolled the bike to a stop in front of her house. She stumbled getting off the bike, but he caught her before she face-planted on the sidewalk. He even walked her up to the door and waited behind her on the porch while she tried to unlock it. Her trembling hand dropped the keys and he bent to grab them before she could react.
“My name’s Sean, by the way.” He unlocked the door for her and handed her keys back.
“Sean. That’s a very nice name. It fits you. I’m Talia.” Did he expect to come in? They had just met and she still had a boyfriend, at least until she could find the nerve to dump the jerk. She’d never been the cheating type.
He leaned one broad shoulder against the wall next to the door and stared down at her. Shadows hid part of his face from her, but his eyes glittered in the dim light.
Sean’s chest rumbled with a deep chuckle. “Would you’ve said the same thing if I’d told you that my name was Bruno?”
A giggle snuck out. Bruno? Not a chance Bruno would fit him.

Content Warning: this book contains hot, sexy scenes, butt-kicking heroines, and strong, hunky heroes

SORM excerpt

War’s End Excerpt:

“Sit down.” Renjiro’s terse words filled Selina with pain and sadness.

She acceded to his request in silence, holding her throbbing hand against her breast. He squatted before her, his face close to hers, his dark eyes shadowed. His touch was gentle as his fingers traced the line of her jaw. They shook a little and she felt the glancing caress. It warmed her.

He touched a raw spot on her chin and she hissed involuntarily.

“Where else are you injured?”

Selina shook her head.

“Captain Codecko? Selina?”

His gentle words nearly undid her. Tears burned in her eyes and she blinked, hoping to banish them. It didn’t work though. They dripped down her face, scalding her frozen cheeks.

Now his hands dropped to her shoulders. “Where else are you hurt, Selina?” His gaze was hypnotic. It drew her words without thought.

“My hand, ribs, and the top of my head.”

He frowned and started tugging at her shirt, pulling it free of the loose-fitting pants.

“What… What are you doing?”

He glanced at her, his face taut and strained. “I’m checking your injuries.”
The Assassin Excerpt:

The small craft Carmichael and Tomi traveled in approached an imposing tower, slowing and dropping to the plascrete surface with a slight bump before rolling to a stop in an empty bay. The doors opened and both men climbed out.

A man approached, and Carmichael guessed he was maybe fifty. He’s carefully preserved, he thought, noting the impeccable gray suit and discreet adornments. He wasn’t tall, but his black hair sprinkled with silver was as immaculate as his clothing. In his uniform, Carmichael felt crumpled before the picture of sartorial elegance. No doubt this was the kind of man Kumi appreciated. He pulled himself up short. He wasn’t there to further his relationship prospects. He had a job to do.

“Madam Kumi is expecting you, Senator. Your friend, however…” The man frowned slightly as he indicated with his perfectly manicured hands toward the seating area.

“He is with me.”

The man nodded, but his eyes narrowed. “She has requested privacy for your meeting.”

Tomi moved through the doorway and Carmichael shadowed him. “Thank you, Dobry.”

Carmichael filed the name away. Never know what will be the piece of information that will solve the puzzle.

Once inside, the door closed with an audible snick. Behind a large wooden desk overflowing with files was Kumi. As elegant as ever in a silver-gray suit. Kumi wasn’t a tall or large woman, but with her golden toned skin and tip-tilted brown eyes she drew the eye. Her short, dark hair was worn in a bob that framed her pixie-shaped face.

She looked soft. Womanly. He also knew she had a spine of pure steel. He’d already seen it in action the night he’d
squired her at the commitment ceremony.

She smiled as she rose. “Well, Tomi. Whatever this is, it had better be good.”

Carmichael noted her bare feet with a grin.

Kumi obviously noticed him and his quick glance. She came to a standstill, frowning before stepping in his direction, then stopped in front of him. Her gaze dipped to her feet and she blushed the most charming pink tinge along her high cheekbones. “Oh, dear. Do forgive me, Captain.” She wiggled the toes which peeked out from under her long, flowing pants.

“There is nothing to forgive, Madam Kumi.” He watched her fluid movements and admired her curves. She was sleek and lithe, and his body tightened at the thought of what lay under the light silk jacket.

Executing Justice Excerpt:

Tension rose in the cabin, thick and heady. The rescuer plunged into the cold waters. A harness was handed over and gripped while the officer dealt with the other. From the movements, Gillian could tell that the person was panicked. Slowly, the first harness rose and she could tell it wasn’t Tomi, as the person had long hair and bare legs. She sucked in a breath as the second person in the water was assisted into another harness, then he or she rose with the rescuer. Even though she craned, the outline of the officer obscured her view. She sucked in an unsteady breath, clenched her hands together, and waited.

When Gillian was sure she could last no longer, the door opened with a bang. She quickly looked up, anticipation sizzling along every nerve ending.

There in the doorway was Tomi, wet and shivering, but very much alive. In his arms was a woman, bedraggled and dirty, but he held her so tenderly that any hopes or dreams Gillian harbored melted away. There was never any hope for her and the feelings that burned in her chest.

Without a word, Gillian turned away and fought the sting of tears in her eyes. She noted the sounds of joyous reunion between brother and sister, but she kept her gaze averted, to give them privacy, she piously told herself. When the pilot ordered them strapped in, she breathed a silent sigh of relief. She knew that this torture, him being so close but now forever so far away, would come to an end sooner rather than later.

Just as she was sure she’d be spared, Tomi spoke. “Gillian, thank you for coming to find me.”

The clog of tears filled her throat, but she managed to croak, “It was nothing.”

“It means a lot to me.” He reached out and touched her hand, and she bit back the gasp that rose.

Nerves in her hand jumped and thrummed, but she ignored them. “Honestly, I’m just pleased I could help.” She glanced in his direction, taken aback by the directness in his gaze before the woman beside him shuddered. He scooped her closer and Gillian turned away.

SORM excerpt

Super Love Excerpt:
“If I come home…I’m going to need time and training.” The words tripped past Dinah’s lips before she could think of the hundred other reasons she should send Myles away and search out a new way to be worthwhile. “I’ve kept up my speed, but I haven’t used my other powers since the train incident.”
Myles sighed and tucked her closer. “Lately it seems like every crazy person who can do something dangerous and violent does it. I don’t have a lot of time, but we’ll get you back to fighting weight. I’ve got a few new heroes who will help too.”
She supposed it was too much to ask for things to have remained unchanged. She had been Myles’s main partner. Not sidekick, she was simply too badass to be a sidekick, but the last she’d heard, Man of Wonder worked with Crypto Man, a man-beast with ruthless speed and strength. She couldn’t expect Myles to make room for her at his side when she wasn’t even sure she could fight any more.
Myles kissed down the side of her neck and to her shoulder, resting there a long moment. “Things will be different this time, but I’ve missed you so much. We’ll make a new start. It will be great.”
Dinah brought his hand to her lips and kissed his palm, the strong, amazing palm that had moments before helped bring her amazing pleasure. “I’ve missed you too. I’m ready to go home.”
Crypto Love Excerpt:
Penna closed her door and leaned against it, a little giddy at having her dream man in her quarters. He stalked around, disdain on his face. The look alone made her hot.
“What are we doing in here? You gonna jump me or something?” Crypto Man asked.
So blunt. After the fussy manners The Warden demanded as part of the class, the straight honesty endeared him to her. This is who she was waiting for.
“Want me to?”
He turned to her sharply. “I’m pretty sure I can kick your ass.”
“Oh, you meant that jump.” She sauntered closer, closing the distance between them with hips more than anything. “I thought you meant seduction.”
He snorted. “Yeah, right. Why am I here?”
She ran her hand up his chest. “Are you sure you’re so willing to pass on the seduction? I hate to sound immodest, but what I lack in superhero skills, I make up for in enthusiastic screwing.”
He wrapped his fingers around her wrist, stilling her progress. The intensity in his eyes warred with something she thought might be disbelief. Maybe she came on too strong.
“Fine,” she said and added a bright smile. “Business first.”
He let her loose and stalked toward her bookshelf. She sat on the single bed to watch him. His animalistic stealth appealed to her at a very base level. She couldn’t believe how quickly her desire sparked and blazed. She crossed her legs. Business first.
Fallen Love Excerpt:
“You look so happy,” Erica said.
Sparrow leaned on his forearms on the marble island, a light blush warming his cheeks. “I am happy, and I have you to thank. I didn’t consider the possibility of being happy in life again. I planned to survive for Ruby, but couldn’t ask to thrive. I’m excited for the first time in years.”
“I can’t tell you how pleased I am. Do you have any other concerns? You might still have aftereffects. The surgery is very new, and I can’t say other things won’t come up.”
He reached across the counter and took her hands. Erica swallowed hard and tried to keep her face expressionless, even as her heart raced.
Sparrow tilted his head, gazing deep into her eyes. “I have concerns about how I can thank you for everything. I know the fraternity donated to your research, but I want to do more.”
“Oh.” The gift Man of Wonder gave more than covered her operating costs for the next year. Money, when it came to working with supers, didn’t usually raise problems. “I really want you to not worry about it. This helped me with my research. I understand the super brain more now than I did before. This research will allow me, and others, to make strides in quality of life.”
He shook his head and squeezed her fingers, his warm hands soft and strong. “There has to be more. What can I do for you?”
Her mouth went completely dry as her mind ran directly to the plethora of things she wanted him to do to her. Tangled limbs. Hot, wet kisses. Deep, throaty moans and miles of pleasure.
“Would you like to fly?” he asked. “I could take you flying.”

SORM excerpt
I looked out of the open window as Los Angeles crawled past in the traffic and exhaled a sigh of momentary defeat. This town was doing my head in. Making me lose sight of reality. The palm trees towering into the azure sky like skinny skyscrapers reaching as high as they could go—everyone reaching beyond their means. Grabbing, aspiring, grasping, taking. Even the trees, goddammit. And the houses on Sunset with their manicured lawns, making you believe that life could be controlled, clipped, neatened. Like my father. A control freak who’d move a pencil one inch to the left if he felt it was out of place. Not on set, no. In his own freaking home! A pencil. And I tried to be like him. Organized. Sharp. On the ball. Controlled. A colonel-in-the-army type.

But that wasn’t me and never had been. I secretly welcomed madness with relish. Unintentionally courted it. Nurtured dysfunction as if it were a breastfeeding baby, willing chaos into my life the way some people attract money or women. Right now my mind was rattling with a sort of hectic glee. Star Davis represented turmoil and for some unknown reason it excited me—my curiosity piqued.

“I wanted an unknown for the role of Skye,” I told Brian, willing my thoughts back to safer waters. A nice, new actress with no baggage, no ego and no “history”—that’s what I need. “I’ve been auditioning at drama schools all over the world. I’ve seen sixty-two actresses. I’d narrowed it down to eight. And now you tell me I’ve basically wasted my time?”

“You tell the press that very same thing. ‘I saw sixty-two actresses and, you know what? None of them hold a candle to Star Davis.’ ”

“A candle that’s going to start a fire.”

“You’ll figure it out, Jake. I mean, let’s face it, she’s met her match—match, haha, no pun intended, Get it? She can set you alight.”

I didn’t laugh at his joke. “What’s that supposed to mean, ‘met her match’?”

“Bad boy Jake Wild—you’ve had some good times on the casting couch yourself, my friend. You can’t deny you’ve clocked up quite a reputation over the years.”

“The couch has been reupholstered, Brian. The past is the past. I don’t take advantage of starry-eyed actresses these days. I’m a professional. I get the job done and don’t screw around with the talent anymore. Ever. Well, as of last week. It’s my number one rule.”

“Well leave Star in peace, you know what I’m saying? She’s vulnerable. She’s fresh out of rehab and needs to be looked after.” He fixed his piggy gaze on me, a bushy eyebrow twitching ironically.

“Oh no! Don’t look at me, mate. There’s no way I’ll be her fucking nanny!”

“You’re the only one, Jake, who can keep her on the straight and narrow. We can’t have her going AWOL in the middle of a shoot. She’ll need to be watched like a hawk.”

“What about her sea of bodyguards? her PA, her father, for that matter?”

“None of them can be trusted. She’s too manipulative. Besides, they’re all on her payroll.”

“Her father too?”

“He’s her unofficial manager.”

“Great ‘manager,’ ” I murmured.

“Star’s been supporting her entire family ever since she did that diaper commercial when she was two years old. She has a strange perspective on life. She has never been told ‘no.’ So she’s used to being boss, and getting what she wants.”

“Well she’s not bloody bossing me.” I said that with bravado, yet here I was being ‘bossed’ by the system. Brian. The executive producers, the producers, the moneymen, the money women . . . the goddam accountants. The suits whose faces I’d never even seen. And indirectly, Star herself. She’d slithered her way into winning the part of Skye with her wily ways, by offering herself practically free. Clever girl. She’d probably sucked someone’s dick to get the part. She had me in a corner and I hadn’t even met her yet.

“And one more thing,” Brian added. “Apparently her house is about to be remodeled and she was planning to move into a hotel for a while. But I don’t trust the idea of Star Davis running around loose in a hotel, you know? Too many distractions—too much booze on tap.”

“What’s your point?” I said, meeting his eyes with a stony glare.

“I thought until every shot is in the can it would be a good idea if she stayed in your home—you can make sure there’re no temptations—no drugs or liquor anywhere near her.”

I stared at him incredulously as he smoothly took a bend, the Porsche revving with a quiet growl. He went on, “We can hire our own bodyguard— someone who can’t be bribed by her to slip her anything— he could live in your guest house—the one in your garden? And she could stay in one of your guest bedrooms. So, you know, she’ll be under your roof.” He was serious when he said this.

“No. Brian, you’re really pushing your luck. I have limits. I don’t want some wayward teenager telling me to fuck off in my own house. I’m not her father. I’m a film director. I have work to do. Storyboards to prepare, scenes to plan out. I have to stay on top of the shooting schedule, liaise with my assistant director, my lighting cameraman—Jesus, what the fuck? I don’t have time to deal with some drug-addicted, attention-seeking, Cristaldrinking brat!”

Book Spotlight & #Giveaway - Dating in the Dark by Tracey Rogers

SOR_Dating_in_the_Dark_VBT_Banner[1]
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Can you find what you need hidden within the dark?
Hiding out in his sister’s bakery to recover from a recent injury isn’t an ideal solution for newly unemployed meteorologist Damian Trent. Especially since he doesn’t like cake. But hiding anywhere is preferable to facing the media frenzy revolving around his life. He has no intention of being seen by anyone. That is, until he hears a honey-toned voice over the phone.
Public relations agent Sophie Rose has a boss who makes her working week a hellish one. He drives her to her need for sugar, so the recently opened Sweet Delights Bakery is perfect for her much needed Friday treat. But one day when she calls to place an order, she gets an unexpected surprise.
Sophie’s keen to dump her V-plates, though only the right man will do. Damian, with his sexy, yet familiar sounding voice, seems the ideal person for her to gain some much needed experience with. But why do they need to date in the dark?
Content Warning: contains sensual sex

SORM excerpt

Damian rested his arm across his forehead and sighed, trying to blot out the ringing sound and failing. Sleep wasn’t happening. He ached from his walk after pushing it to a run. With each step he’d remembered Sophie’s voice. He had very little else to occupy his mind, so she was an easy focus. Every stride had gathered pace, and before he knew it a walk had become a jog; a jog becoming a run.
And her voice was still inside his head.
Stretching out on the creaky sofa bed, he winced at the movement. Irritated, he tugged the sheet down from his bare chest to lean over and grab the phone. He placed it to his ear and muttered something unintelligible.
“Hi, sorry—did I wake you?”
“Sophie?” Or was he asleep and dreaming?
“Oh, crap. I did, didn’t I? I’m so sorry. I couldn’t sleep, so I thought… Anyway, my apologies. Pretend it never happened, and goodnight,” she said, speeding over her words.
“Sophie, wait!” he called out, wanting to stop her before she hung up, needing to listen to her voice for a little while longer. “I couldn’t sleep either,” he reassured her as he heard her soft breaths. He shuffled higher against his pillow and propped one hand behind his head. Why couldn’t she sleep? Because of him? And how had she gotten his number?
“Really?” Her relieved sigh made him smile. If he wasn’t careful, smiling could become a habit of his. “When you left your number in the box, I thought…”
Left his number? He had no idea what his number was.
“What did you think?”
“I thought you might want me to call?” she asked hesitantly, as if she was worried about his response. She wouldn’t be worried if she could see the stirring going on beneath the sheet. Or maybe she would be? Though she seemed confident, he still detected a shyness behind her words.
“And did you want to call?”
“I did.”
His jaw clenched at her immediate response, a muscle flickering in his cheek. Interesting. Her honesty was evoking things inside that he was starting to like. A lot.
“I like hearing your voice.”
Christ, what was she doing to him?
“What do you look like?” he asked, without thinking about the repercussions of his question.
Silence.
“Does that matter?” she said quietly, the warmth in her tone dropping a degree or two.
“No, no it doesn’t.” He frowned, the admission taking him by surprise. “Tell me what you’re wearing instead.”
“Why?”
“Because if you don’t tell me you’re wearing something hideous, I won’t be sleeping for the rest of the night either.”
She laughed then, the sound not helping his libido whatsoever. “Damian.”
“Yeah.”
“I’m not wearing anything hideous.” He groaned then, obviously out loud because Sophie was laughing again. “I’m not wearing anything.”
Oh, hell. A sudden spike of desire sliced through his veins, making him regret his impulsive words. “Then I’m now very grateful I don’t know what you look like.”
“You could. Know what I look like I mean.”
“You want to tell me now?”
“No. I want to show you. On a…date?”
Damian lifted a hand to his face, massaging his fingers above his brow, then lower to scrub over his jaw. His breath felt restricted by his tightening lungs. As much as he wanted to see her, to touch her, to have someone touch him in a way that wasn’t clinical or trying to fix him—he couldn’t do it. How could he see her, without her seeing him?
