A Hybrid’s Tale by Andrew P. Weston

Born a Cambion – a half-demon, half-human hybrid – and cursed by a terrible hunger he can barely control, Augustus Thorne spends his long and lonely life hunting and exterminating any Incubi and Succubae he can find. But no matter how many he destroys, he can always make room for one more. Especially if it’s the foul scum who raped his mother; Augustus’ own spawn-father, Fanon.

Guided by his mother’s diaries, Augustus pursues Fanon down through the centuries and around the world, until fate seems to point him toward his heart’s desire. Yet, things are not as they appear, and the revelations Augustus uncovers are mind boggling. For if he wishes to face his father, he must first learn more about his own unique heritage, and the awful circumstances that led to his creation.

The trouble is, doing so might just cost him his humanity.

My Thoughts

Hybrid’s Tale is a thrilling paranormal thriller centering around a man named Augustus who was born half human and half demon  and dedicated his life to hunting incubi. His hatred stems from the fact that a demon forced himself on his mother. Longing to make his biological father pay for his sins, he uses clues left by his mother in her diary to seek him out and destroy him. What he discovers is an intricate mystery that will pull the reader in from the very first pages.

While this novel does have a dark side, there are also elements of humor, making it a truly diverse read. As with every  Weston novel, this story offers vivid imagery, relatable characters, and a story line that leaves you wanting more when you turn the last page. The ending may leave you reaching for a tissue and wondering where the next chapter of Augustus's story will lead.

I read the this story in its first incarnation as The Rage of the Augustus when it was originally published by Pagan Writers Press. I thoroughly enjoyed that version, but this one is even better. Having followed Mr. Weston though most of his writing career, I've seen his work advance from great to outstanding. This version is a little shorter, but the writing is tighter after some fresh editing. The new cover is also really eye-catching. I look forward to reading the rest of this exciting paranormal series. Be sure to check out all the paranormal and science fiction novels on Mr. Weston's backlist, some of which were #1 best sellers on Amazon!
