Hell Gate by Andrew P. Weston

The Angel Grislington is dead, effaced from existence during an epic battle with Daemon Grim that destroyed a Zion forged blade and one of Satan’s premier palaces in the process.
Chopin and Tesla have gone to ground. So much so, that they might as well be six feet under helping to push up hell-daisies.

Even Erra and the Sibitti, his living weapons of vengeance and destruction, seem reticent to show their faces.

Rioting sweeps the length and breadth of the underworld. Yet the halls of the Mortuary lie vacant, for someone is stealing soul-essence, the very means by which Satan condemns sinners to everlasting torment.

But who would do such a thing? And how does the hush that descends upon the dirty streets of latterday hell tie into ancient prophecy relating to the Reaper’s destiny?

It’s often calmest before the storm.

Just imagine how bad things will get with the apocalypse approaching.

Unlive – Die – Repeat.
Hell, the edge of all your tomorrows.

Indie Short Film, Monstrum - #Kickstarter

Hello, Today I'm very happy to host the upcoming Indie Short Film, Monstrum!(4CW Media Productions). Below the Monstrum Production Team gives an inside peek at how the unique retro futuristic look of the film originated. Also, meet some of the cast and crew behind the soon to be released cyberpunk fantasy!

a fun plus 104

The Monstrum short film and up coming Web Drama consists of the cyberpunk and retro 1920s aesthetics to not only look fashionable, but for the characters to show pride for the teams they belong to and to go about achieving their goals. Read on to discover more about the characters and what went into their development! CYBERPUNK STYLE: This was chosen to show the sign of the times during the futuristic society of New Dallas and New Deep Ellum. This look consisted of clothes in various darker shades/colors such as black, gray, purple (sometimes white), and that are loose fitting and capable of withstanding the transient and sometimes active lifestyle of the hackers of Team Shadow. This team includes the members: the old team leader and head hacker Erica, the unofficial new team leader and skilled fighter Dominique Coutee, the android Tae, tech savvy Bombmaker, and the recovering addict Gabriel Caesar, son of Marcus Caesar. They have also been referred to as Team Blue not only because it is Dominique's hair color of choice, but because the color blue represents meanings of depth, trust, loyalty, sincerity, wisdom, confidence, stability, faith, intelligence, and above all: freedom. These meanings are the core of what keeps Team Shadow going no matter the odds, as well as the core of Dominique's battle to rid the world of the drug that removed her sister from her life forever and made her lose faith in the one she used to love.

On Set: Behind The Scenes -Team Shadow with Dominique Coutee , the android Tae, and Erica and Bombmaker behind them working at the table. RETRO 1920s (SPEAKEASY) STYLE: This was inspired by the old mobster look of the 20s, and the futuristic Somnium dens in New Deep Ellum were also stylized by the speakeasies of that time period. Although a violent time, there was a sense of romance and excitement that made the people who went to them have the desire to leave all their troubles at the door. Team Caesar are in charge of majority of these Somnium dens, even though they still report to the head honcho which is Marcus Caesar. Team Caesar's clothes are more formal attire consisting of black buttoned up long sleeved shirts, vests, black slacks, and unmarred black shoes because their attire is made for them to appear classy but still lethal. Their members include: the leader Emile Caesar who is also the nephew of Marcus Caesar, the right hand man and head guard Alexander Vex, and all of the guards who follow orders to defend the dens and the drug Somnium. This team has also been referred to as Team Red not only because the guards' uniforms and the décor of the den Emile is in charge of are all red, but because the color red represents energy, war, danger, strength, power, and determination as well as underlying emotions of passion, desire, and love. Emile's state of mind is mainly responsible for the chosen color of red being Team Caesar's theme because he is determined to prove Somnium is worth the trouble of losing the love of someone he cared for.

Both looks were not easily attained, and definitely required a lot of thought behind each decision. The production team and our costume designer, Jeanne White of Victoria's Steamtrunk , poured in days of research on both cyberpunk and retro 1920s looks to see how they would fit in the world of Monstrum. Then they both broke down each character as well as their back stories to see how they would dress for three reasons: to fit that character's personality, how they would look when the audience first sees them, and how that character would evolve. Finally, both the production team and Mrs. White were able to scour vintage stores and online catalogs to piece together each individual look, even going as far as Mrs. White hand-making some of the costumes herself.

We hope you continue to delve into the Monstrumverse and follow our characters as they take on new foes and possibly each other. Lastly, we leave you with this: Team Blue or Team Red? Which are you?

Eros Element by Cecilia Dominic -#Giveaway

Genre: steampunk/historical
Aether Psychics, Book 1
If love is the ivy, secrets are the poison.
After enduring heartbreak at the hands of a dishonest woman, Edward Bailey lives according to scientific principles of structure and predictability. Just the thought of stepping outside his strict routine raises his anxiety.
Adding to his discomfort is Iris McTavish, who appears at his school’s faculty meeting in place of her world-famous archeologist father. Worse, the two of them are to pose as Grand Tourists while they search for an element that will help harness the power of aether.
Iris jumps at the opportunity to prove her worth as a scholar—and avoid an unwanted marriage proposal—while hiding the truth of her father’s whereabouts. If her secret gets out, the house of McTavish will fall into ruin.
Quite unexpectedly, Edward and Iris discover a growing attraction as their journey takes them to Paris and Rome, where betrayal, blackmail and outright theft threaten to destroy what could be a revolutionary discovery—and break their hearts.
Warning: Allergen alert! This book was produced in a facility that handles copious amounts of wine, tea and baked goods. May contain one or more of the following: a spirited heroine, a quirky hero, clever banter, interesting facts both made-up and historical, and lots of secrets. It is, however, gluten free.
SORM excerpt The train slowed and rolled into a coal yard in a deserted area. Iris thought she saw some hints of blue in the gray-brown haze above the train, but she had no desire to go outside. Then she observed something very strange—the maid and the men who must be conducting and fueling the train walking around with long-handled hand-looking devices and looking on and under their cars. The men also had long-barreled steam rifles, which from the glow on the handles had been turned on and primed long enough ago to be ready for immediate use.“What are they doing?” Professor Bailey asked.
“I don’t know.” Iris tried to angle herself to get a closer look at the proceedings, but she bumped her head on the window and rubbed her forehead. A thunk and other sounds above her told her someone climbed on the roof and walked across it. The crack of a steam rifle made her jump.
“Are we under attack?” Iris asked at the same time Bledsoe sat straight and asked, “What the hell…?”
More rifle shots made them all duck and cower below the window line so as not to be easy targets. Iris found her head cradled against Professor Bailey’s chest, which felt broader and stronger than she had estimated.
“Miss McTavish, your hair is tickling my nose,” he said.
“Stop complaining or I shall poke you with one of the pins from Bledsoe’s friend.”
“That would be worse,” he agreed. “No telling what diseases an actress’s pins harbor.”
“I can hear you, you know,” Bledsoe grumbled from somewhere near Iris’s bustle, and she became aware of the weight of his head on her hip.
After about twenty minutes of awkward silence during which Iris heard people moving around outside and a few more shots, the train moved forward again. Something crunched under the wheels.
The maid, unencumbered by the clawed device, wheeled a lunch cart into the room, and her eyebrows raised when she caught sight of the three of them on the floor.
“Oh, I’m sorry, Miss, Professor and Maestro,” she said. “What are you doing on the floor? Do you need me to return later?”
“Certainly not.” Iris scrambled back onto the bench she had been sitting on, and the men did likewise. She narrowed her eyes at the maid, who looked like she tried not to laugh at them.
“What were you doing?” Iris asked. Both of the men looked at her, and she guessed they were irritated by her speaking first. It was bad enough her reputation would be at risk for traveling with the two of them unchaperoned, she didn’t need to be caught in any compromising positions. Therefore, she needed an explanation to put the situation in context.
“It’s the Clockmakers’ Guild, Miss,” the maid said. “They send little toys to crawl into Mister Cobb’s and other gentlemen’s trains to annoy them but also gather information. We take advantage of the stop for coal to clean ’em off.”
“How do they work?” Professor Bailey asked.
“Some of ’em have cylinders in them like player cylinders, but made of wax, that they transfer information on. It’s too complicated for me, but I’m sure Mister Cobb will be happy to explain on his airship. The blast from the steam rifles shuts them down, or we catch ’em with the claws and squeeze them out of shape so they can’t move anymore, and the train wheels grind them into uselessness.”

SORM About the Author
Cecilia Dominic wrote her first story when she was two years old and has always had a much more interesting life inside her head than outside of it. She became a clinical psychologist because she’s fascinated by people and their stories, but she couldn’t stop writing fiction. The first draft of her dissertation, while not fiction, was still criticized by her major professor for being written in too entertaining a style. She made it through graduate school and got her PhD, started her own practice, and by day, she helps people cure their insomnia without using medication. By night, she blogs about wine and writes fiction she hopes will keep her readers turning the pages all night. Yes, she recognizes the conflict of interest between her two careers, so she writes and blogs under a pen name. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia with one husband and two cats, which, she’s been told, is a good number of each. She also enjoys putting her psychological expertise to good use helping other authors through her Characters on the Couch blog post series.

Book Review - A Siren of The Dead by Rosa Sophia

Aldon never got anywhere on his good looks, at least not according to his late wife.

At forty-two, his only companion is a cat named Tilly, and he’s turned to drinking in his off-hours to quiet the discontent in his head. As a city cop, he carries a heavy weight on his shoulders. Though he’s troubled by his own problems, he never lets them get in the way of helping people.

Now he’s needed more than ever. When the daughter of a nobleman goes missing, Aldon is sent to an alien planet to retrieve her.

But there’s one catch. The woman he seeks is unique. She is a siren, and she can raise the dead.

My Thoughts

A Siren of the Dead is an exciting and face-paced adventure. There's a little bit of everything in this book--sci-fi, paranormal, mystery--all leading up a a thrilling inter-dimensional war. The story is set in a world much like our own, but there are a few big differences. One is that they have creatures known as sirens who are capable of raising the dead. When one of the sirens is abducted on another planet, Aldon is sent on a rescue mission that leads to some shocking revelations that could put his entire planet in jeopardy.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was an entirely unique take on zombies, and also had an exciting  sci-fi twist that totally blew my mind, but I won't give away any spoilers.  If you're looking for a book that's really different, The Siren of the Dead is a great choice. I've never read anything quite like it, and I'm excited to read the next installment.

Content Warning: this book contains hot, sexy scenes, butt-kicking heroines, and strong, hunky heroes

SORM excerpt

War’s End Excerpt:

“Sit down.” Renjiro’s terse words filled Selina with pain and sadness.

She acceded to his request in silence, holding her throbbing hand against her breast. He squatted before her, his face close to hers, his dark eyes shadowed. His touch was gentle as his fingers traced the line of her jaw. They shook a little and she felt the glancing caress. It warmed her.

He touched a raw spot on her chin and she hissed involuntarily.

“Where else are you injured?”

Selina shook her head.

“Captain Codecko? Selina?”

His gentle words nearly undid her. Tears burned in her eyes and she blinked, hoping to banish them. It didn’t work though. They dripped down her face, scalding her frozen cheeks.

Now his hands dropped to her shoulders. “Where else are you hurt, Selina?” His gaze was hypnotic. It drew her words without thought.

“My hand, ribs, and the top of my head.”

He frowned and started tugging at her shirt, pulling it free of the loose-fitting pants.

“What… What are you doing?”

He glanced at her, his face taut and strained. “I’m checking your injuries.”
The Assassin Excerpt:

The small craft Carmichael and Tomi traveled in approached an imposing tower, slowing and dropping to the plascrete surface with a slight bump before rolling to a stop in an empty bay. The doors opened and both men climbed out.

A man approached, and Carmichael guessed he was maybe fifty. He’s carefully preserved, he thought, noting the impeccable gray suit and discreet adornments. He wasn’t tall, but his black hair sprinkled with silver was as immaculate as his clothing. In his uniform, Carmichael felt crumpled before the picture of sartorial elegance. No doubt this was the kind of man Kumi appreciated. He pulled himself up short. He wasn’t there to further his relationship prospects. He had a job to do.

“Madam Kumi is expecting you, Senator. Your friend, however…” The man frowned slightly as he indicated with his perfectly manicured hands toward the seating area.

“He is with me.”

The man nodded, but his eyes narrowed. “She has requested privacy for your meeting.”

Tomi moved through the doorway and Carmichael shadowed him. “Thank you, Dobry.”

Carmichael filed the name away. Never know what will be the piece of information that will solve the puzzle.

Once inside, the door closed with an audible snick. Behind a large wooden desk overflowing with files was Kumi. As elegant as ever in a silver-gray suit. Kumi wasn’t a tall or large woman, but with her golden toned skin and tip-tilted brown eyes she drew the eye. Her short, dark hair was worn in a bob that framed her pixie-shaped face.

She looked soft. Womanly. He also knew she had a spine of pure steel. He’d already seen it in action the night he’d
squired her at the commitment ceremony.

She smiled as she rose. “Well, Tomi. Whatever this is, it had better be good.”

Carmichael noted her bare feet with a grin.

Kumi obviously noticed him and his quick glance. She came to a standstill, frowning before stepping in his direction, then stopped in front of him. Her gaze dipped to her feet and she blushed the most charming pink tinge along her high cheekbones. “Oh, dear. Do forgive me, Captain.” She wiggled the toes which peeked out from under her long, flowing pants.

“There is nothing to forgive, Madam Kumi.” He watched her fluid movements and admired her curves. She was sleek and lithe, and his body tightened at the thought of what lay under the light silk jacket.

Executing Justice Excerpt:

Tension rose in the cabin, thick and heady. The rescuer plunged into the cold waters. A harness was handed over and gripped while the officer dealt with the other. From the movements, Gillian could tell that the person was panicked. Slowly, the first harness rose and she could tell it wasn’t Tomi, as the person had long hair and bare legs. She sucked in a breath as the second person in the water was assisted into another harness, then he or she rose with the rescuer. Even though she craned, the outline of the officer obscured her view. She sucked in an unsteady breath, clenched her hands together, and waited.

When Gillian was sure she could last no longer, the door opened with a bang. She quickly looked up, anticipation sizzling along every nerve ending.

There in the doorway was Tomi, wet and shivering, but very much alive. In his arms was a woman, bedraggled and dirty, but he held her so tenderly that any hopes or dreams Gillian harbored melted away. There was never any hope for her and the feelings that burned in her chest.

Without a word, Gillian turned away and fought the sting of tears in her eyes. She noted the sounds of joyous reunion between brother and sister, but she kept her gaze averted, to give them privacy, she piously told herself. When the pilot ordered them strapped in, she breathed a silent sigh of relief. She knew that this torture, him being so close but now forever so far away, would come to an end sooner rather than later.

Just as she was sure she’d be spared, Tomi spoke. “Gillian, thank you for coming to find me.”

The clog of tears filled her throat, but she managed to croak, “It was nothing.”

“It means a lot to me.” He reached out and touched her hand, and she bit back the gasp that rose.

Nerves in her hand jumped and thrummed, but she ignored them. “Honestly, I’m just pleased I could help.” She glanced in his direction, taken aback by the directness in his gaze before the woman beside him shuddered. He scooped her closer and Gillian turned away.

SORM excerpt

Super Love Excerpt:
“If I come home…I’m going to need time and training.” The words tripped past Dinah’s lips before she could think of the hundred other reasons she should send Myles away and search out a new way to be worthwhile. “I’ve kept up my speed, but I haven’t used my other powers since the train incident.”
Myles sighed and tucked her closer. “Lately it seems like every crazy person who can do something dangerous and violent does it. I don’t have a lot of time, but we’ll get you back to fighting weight. I’ve got a few new heroes who will help too.”
She supposed it was too much to ask for things to have remained unchanged. She had been Myles’s main partner. Not sidekick, she was simply too badass to be a sidekick, but the last she’d heard, Man of Wonder worked with Crypto Man, a man-beast with ruthless speed and strength. She couldn’t expect Myles to make room for her at his side when she wasn’t even sure she could fight any more.
Myles kissed down the side of her neck and to her shoulder, resting there a long moment. “Things will be different this time, but I’ve missed you so much. We’ll make a new start. It will be great.”
Dinah brought his hand to her lips and kissed his palm, the strong, amazing palm that had moments before helped bring her amazing pleasure. “I’ve missed you too. I’m ready to go home.”
Crypto Love Excerpt:
Penna closed her door and leaned against it, a little giddy at having her dream man in her quarters. He stalked around, disdain on his face. The look alone made her hot.
“What are we doing in here? You gonna jump me or something?” Crypto Man asked.
So blunt. After the fussy manners The Warden demanded as part of the class, the straight honesty endeared him to her. This is who she was waiting for.
“Want me to?”
He turned to her sharply. “I’m pretty sure I can kick your ass.”
“Oh, you meant that jump.” She sauntered closer, closing the distance between them with hips more than anything. “I thought you meant seduction.”
He snorted. “Yeah, right. Why am I here?”
She ran her hand up his chest. “Are you sure you’re so willing to pass on the seduction? I hate to sound immodest, but what I lack in superhero skills, I make up for in enthusiastic screwing.”
He wrapped his fingers around her wrist, stilling her progress. The intensity in his eyes warred with something she thought might be disbelief. Maybe she came on too strong.
“Fine,” she said and added a bright smile. “Business first.”
He let her loose and stalked toward her bookshelf. She sat on the single bed to watch him. His animalistic stealth appealed to her at a very base level. She couldn’t believe how quickly her desire sparked and blazed. She crossed her legs. Business first.
Fallen Love Excerpt:
“You look so happy,” Erica said.
Sparrow leaned on his forearms on the marble island, a light blush warming his cheeks. “I am happy, and I have you to thank. I didn’t consider the possibility of being happy in life again. I planned to survive for Ruby, but couldn’t ask to thrive. I’m excited for the first time in years.”
“I can’t tell you how pleased I am. Do you have any other concerns? You might still have aftereffects. The surgery is very new, and I can’t say other things won’t come up.”
He reached across the counter and took her hands. Erica swallowed hard and tried to keep her face expressionless, even as her heart raced.
Sparrow tilted his head, gazing deep into her eyes. “I have concerns about how I can thank you for everything. I know the fraternity donated to your research, but I want to do more.”
“Oh.” The gift Man of Wonder gave more than covered her operating costs for the next year. Money, when it came to working with supers, didn’t usually raise problems. “I really want you to not worry about it. This helped me with my research. I understand the super brain more now than I did before. This research will allow me, and others, to make strides in quality of life.”
He shook his head and squeezed her fingers, his warm hands soft and strong. “There has to be more. What can I do for you?”
Her mouth went completely dry as her mind ran directly to the plethora of things she wanted him to do to her. Tangled limbs. Hot, wet kisses. Deep, throaty moans and miles of pleasure.
“Would you like to fly?” he asked. “I could take you flying.”
