Excerpt:
Taranis watched Tara climb onto her moped. She ran her fingers through her short black hair before pulling on her helmet. Mortals would never have been able to see so clearly, but even from across the street he could make out every detail of the art that was etched across her muscular yet feminine arms. They were drenched in color from the corner of her shoulder to the tips of her elbows. On one arm he saw a frog and a crow alongside the Puerto Rican flag, which was the heritage she had chosen in this new life. There was even a flamenco dancer adorned in a pink and green gown, forever frozen in her graceful dance. The other arm displayed a garden of colorful flowers— roses and lilies in blue, black and orange. Taranis imagined the fragrance of those flowers would be more intoxicating than any within the earth because they were drenched in her natural scent. He also noticed that mixed in among the tattoos that spoke of her Latino heritage; there was also a Celtic tribal band wrapped around her left ankle. Taranis knew it was a sign that a part of her was still drawn to the life she had lived before—the life he had been a brief but traumatic part of.

Taranis pushed the negative memories away. This was a new era. A new world. One where anything was possible. There were times when the magic of technology seemed to dwarf the powers of the gods themselves. First sign language and then computers with their artificial voices had made it much easier for Taranis to blend in among the mortals. Taranis especially loved the women of the twenty-first century. They were so bold and fearless, unafraid of demanding equality from their male counterparts. Tara was a prime example of that feminist drive. It seemed in each life time, she grew even stronger and more durable. He admired her strength and perseverance, but he also saw the sad and lonely woman she hid beneath the tough and snarky façade.

For two years he had watched her, yearned for her, but he was biding his time and building her trust. He had interacted with her in his human guise. Yet, he hadn’t given into the temptation to pursue anything more than a casual friendship, even though her smile insinuated she was open to more. He knew it was fear that restrained him. Each time he thought about romantic innuendos, he remembered Calista lying dead in his arms with blood dripping down her pale neck. Still, he hungered for Tara with a passion unlike anything he had ever known. He had waited centuries for her to return to him after his failure with Calista. He was sure that in this new world where their paths had finally crossed again, he would find a way to make her love him. He didn’t want to risk her life, but Taranis had a secret hope. He believed the very characteristic that she considered her greatest flaw would be the one thing that ensured their happiness in this life and all that followed.

Short Story Review - Cawing Crows and Baying Hounds by Dorothy L. Abrams

Even though Elspet and Callum were thrown together by the politics of family, she loves him with a passion she never thought possible.

When she sees his life threatened by thieves in the night, she and a squire race to defend him and her brother Alec. This brush with death raises their passion for each other and once they are alone in the little room under the eaves at Brackenbyre Inn, what begins as their own loving making transcends all possibilities when they are joined by Chu Chulain and the Morrigan in a night of love no one will forget.

 About this autho
r

I am an avid reader and addicted writer. I write non fiction about Goddess spirituality and fiction about 12th century witches as real women or about historical women who rose above the allowed possibilities.

I start things like a domestic violence intervention program, a sexual assault victims response program and a pagan church. Then I train people to run them so I can go on to the next thing.

I am the mother of too many cats, well qualified to be a crazy cat lady except it is my partner Eric that is responsible for all these furry creatures. (That's my story and I'm sticking to it.)

My Thoughts

Cawing Crows and Baying Hounds is a brilliantly depicted historical novella set in 12th century England. When Elspet's lover is attacked, she finds the spirit of the Morrigan has overtaken her and gives her the strength to help save his life. Later, as the two lay in bed, again the Morrigan visits them, this time accompanied by her immortal lover Chu Chulain.  This delightful short story has a lot of action and some pretty spicy scenes packed into only a few short pages. It also offered a new take on the Morrigan, one of my favorite deities. If you enjoy historical shorts or a good paranormal romance, Cawing Crows and Baying Hounds would make a wonderful edition to your library.

About the Author

Born and raised in the midwest, Tinnekke Bebout grew up slowly finding her voice as a writer. Her first non-academic assays into the art involved poetry she created while still in high school as well as her first attempt at a novel. Since leaving academia as a young woman, she has found her creative voice mostly through the genres of poetry and essays. She has recently made a foray back into the short fiction realm and is planning a novel, which she hopes to have ready by the middle of summer 2013.

My Thoughts

Call Me Havoc is the romantic tale of an unlikely couple. It starts off from the perspective of Havoc, the son of a goddess, who tells us the interesting tale of how his parents met. Its all starts with a pair of peace loving hippies who find love. Their son is raised to see things a little differently than the average boy, but he never imagined a goddess would take an interest in him. Appearing to him first as a child, the two grow up together and share a love that is filled with wonder.  Beautifully written with lovable characters, Call Me Havoc is a fun, quick read that reminds us there is a little magic in everyone.

New Release! Thunderstruck by Laura DeLuca

Most of you who follow my work know I usually stick to the YA genre, but I am branching out a little. Thunderstruck is my contribution to For the Love of the Gods anthology and it is definitely for 18 + only. Eventually all these short stories will be issued in one large print novel, but for now we're releasing them as individual novella eBooks.

Thunderstruck is a short paranormal romance that was inspired by my friend, editor, and follow author Tara Chevrestt--you can meet her on Book Babe. That is her picture on the cover.  Because she played such a huge roll in inspiring the heroine,  the story is also dedicated to Tara. She was a lot of spunk and I hope you enjoy reading about her as much as I enjoyed writing about her. To learn more, check out the blurb below.

And don't forget to check out the Love of the Gods release party for a chance to win tons of great prizes including eBooks, prize packs, and $25 Amazon GC.

About the Author

Tracy Palmer (1971-????) was destined from conception to have an interesting life. After all, only the unusual can attract someone that was conceived in Peculiar, MO. Tracy was obsessively involved in music, acting, and writing since she was first introduced to them in elementary school and she spent most of her scholastic life devoted to each one of the three. A young Ms. Palmer spent a majority of her childhood shuttling back and forth between her parents at the Lake of the Ozarks and Cedar Rapids, IA. After a family tragedy at the end of her Junior year in high school, Tracy left school and served a brief stint in the US Army. Upon leaving the military, Tracy then settled in southern Missouri. She has worked in several professions (accounting, retail, call centers... all mostly IT related) and is now seeking a degree in Mass Media with a double minor in Psychology and Screenwriting (she is also completing an Associate of Arts in Teaching degree).

The backbone and beginning of Tracy’s path towards the entertainment industry includes her first printed novel: Tribrid (first published as trIIIbrid). She is also a contributing writer for the post apocalyptic zombie game "Survivor Z". Along with ongoing contributions to the Survivor Z app, Tracy is currently involved in writing the sequel to Tribrid (My Father's Daughter), "The Rage Within" (a graphic novel based on the Tribrid series), "Fire Driven" (a short story going to print late summer 2013), and an original screenplay titled "Dream Weaver". Ms. Palmer is a production assistant for the upcoming movie "The Dead Reckoning" and other future films from the House of Grimm. The world can look forward to several more exciting things from this multi-faceted individual as she dons many more hats in the film and print industries.

My Thoughts

Terrwyn is called to service by the Goddess Brighid. She answers willingly, but her path to the temple is not an easy one. She disguises herself as a boy for part of her travels and walks so far she wears the skin away from the heels of her feet. Eventually she enlists the help of a sweet old matron who turns out to have once been a sister of the flames herself. Even if Terrwyn overcomes all the obstacles in her path, once she arrives at the temple she'll have to face the members of the new religion who want to wipe the old ways from the world completely.

Fire Driven is a beautifully written short story of one woman's strength and faith. Terrwyn lets nothing deter her from serving the Goddess she adores and who is her lover as well as her mistress. The stunning word building makes this a quick read with tons of action, a little romance, and a lot of magic.

My Thoughts

James Foster is a marine geologist who cares more about the environment then his paycheck. When a big oil company puts sea-life in danger, he stands up for what he believes in. The result is a backlash of negative publicity and reporters camped out on his front yard. When he first notices a mysterious woman in the crowd who later saves his life, he thinks she might be going undercover to get the dirt on him, but the secret this mysterious beauty is hiding goes much deeper than deadlines.

This short story is  fun, quick read with a little romance and a lot of storm raging action. In addition to providing an interesting twist on paranormal romance, Heart of the Storm also delves into the importance of showing respect for our ecosystem. It is a well thought out and entertaining novella sure to leave the reader captivated.

Book Review - From Dusk 'Til Dawn by Elizabeth Schechter

When Delan stumbled into the Temple, he wasn't expecting to be welcomed as a Temple servant. He wasn't expecting his only duty to be to serve Lyander, cloistered son of the High Priestess. He wasn't expecting to fall in love.

And he wasn't expecting that he was going to have to choose: love, or saving the world.

Where to Buy

Amazon       Smashwords     Barnes & Noble   All Romance    Goodreads

About the Author

Elizabeth Schechter was born in New York at some point in the past. She is officially old enough to know better, but refuses to grow up. She has been, at various points in her life, a jeweler, an artist, a counselor, a minister, a fitness instructor, a singer, counter-person in a coffee-shop, a lab tech, a research assistant, quarter-staff master, a daycare worker, a high school English teacher, a kindergarten teacher, a stay-at-home-mom, an editor and a writer. She firmly believes in the Heinlein adage that specialization is for insects, and is still working on the tinker, tailor, soldier and spy parts of the list.

Elizabeth started writing in grade school, mostly for her own amusement. Her first novel was written while a student at the Bronx High School of Science, where she was regularly accosted before class by her friends, who were looking for the next chapter. She still has that manuscript somewhere, and readily admits that it is absolute and complete crap, but one must start somewhere.
Writing got pushed to the sidelines for a good number of years, until Elizabeth got involved in a play-by-email role-playing game that was completely story driven. That game rekindled her love of writing, and she teamed up with another player to further explore the lives of their characters. That exploration turned into a planned series of novels, of which the first two are complete.

Once Elizabeth started writing again, she found that she couldn't stop. A friend pointed out an open call for submissions for a Circlet anthology themed on the Tarot. She came up with an idea about a most interesting tarot reading that turned into "The Hand You're Dealt," her first short story sale.
Elizabeth lives in Central Florida with her husband and son, and a most accepting circle of friends who are both very amused and very proud of the pervy, fetish writer in their midst.

My Thoughts:
Lyander has lived a quiet life in the Temple and doesn't expect that to change when Delan comes to serve him. But in each other's arms, the two men find a passion they hadn't expected. Things should have been bliss, but the temple is attacked by the priestesses of the Light who have discovered a secret about Lyander. When Lyander is taken hostage, Delan joins forces with Lyander's sister to save the gentle young man from being sacrificed.

From Dusk 'Til Dawn is an exiting tale packed with action and a little romance. It also paints a unique picture. What if women were the dominant sex and men were the ones who had to fight for equality? There is also a paranormal element in the tale because Lyander is more than what he seems. All in all, a quick read with an original storyline.
